So I've been listening to sports radio and just general sports talk amongst friends and the one constant to the game is everyone speaking to the complete defense of the 49ers.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that they are the best defense in the league but no defense is "perfect" or flawless, especially against the Patriots and the offense. Even of they stifle Brady for some drives, its only a matter of time before they find success. To me personally, I think their main weakness is simply, the slot receiver. Aside from their offensive line issues and spotty offensive play for stretches, I think this is where they get killed.

Look at the Rams, the team that obviously gave them the most trouble with a tie and loss to them this season. The X-factor, Danny Amendola, a slot receiver. He torched them for more than 100 yards in the win with quick shifty routes and of underneath plays. Well, guess what, the Patriots have the best slot receiver in the game today and he should have a big day.

To me, the play of Welker will open up other things for the offense and give Hernandez a chance to make plays as well. I'm not saying this is the only way but from what I've seen, its been the most effective against their all around stout defense.

Thoughts?

They're a very, very good defense, and I give them all the respect in the world. But "perfect"? The fact that they are dependent on 10 guys playing so many snaps and on 4 guys for all of their pressure makes it less than perfect. Still very, very good, mind you, but far from perfect.

The NFL has yet to see a perfect defense. The 2000 Ravens defense was the best one I can recall, including the 1985 Bears defense.

they are not perfect.

they don't create enough turnovers, they don't always create pressure on the QB and they don't always stop the run. they're not good at giving their offense a short field

That was the tie and it really should have been about 170 yards but one of the St. Louis lineman was called for an illegal formation on the 80 yard pass play to Amendola. Which would have put them at the SF 2 yard line.

He didn't even in play in the game that they actually beat them

Go Wes, go.

There is one way to see how "perfect" a defense is. Line 'em up and let 'em play against the best offense in the league. Oh, joy, they're going to.

And we all saw how the 2nd best defense in town made out last Monday nite.

The only offense comparable to ours that they've played is the Giants who put up 28 and won. 49ers fans keep telling themselves that they were able to beat Rodgers whose offense is as good as Brady's but they played the Packers when the Packers were playing like crap and their offensive line sucks.

only person that scares me is aldon smith...but jj watt scared me and look what happened..so who knows

The so called perfect defense has more depth than the 49ers D does. Their starting 11 is ridiculous, the depth not so much.

The Patriots should commit to the run. They'll be gassed by the start of the fourth quarter.

BB will double Smith if Solder has any trouble. In Dante we trust :rocker:

The SF D is as "perfect" as NE's O.

It's probably one, if not the, the most complete defenses in the last decade. And to be doing it in this era of Football says that much more about them. That said, our Offense is a match up nightmare. You have to take it one play at a time against a defense that good.

How did the Rams beat them and tie them ??? : scratches head
