49ers: Alex Smith Done for the year

Never heard a thing about that - never heard of it in football before in fact. However with 2 wins already I don't think it'll be top 5 anyway. 7-13 or so, probably :rocker:

Yeah that's true....protected picks is more of a NBA thing.

Watch the two Super Bowl teams pick in the top ten...Dallas has the Browns pick...It's not impossible but I root for the Browns (and hate the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals)...my best friend is a 9ers fan and I loathe them because of it.

I watched pretty much the whole SF game last week (once again, Direct TV is the greatest invention since sliced bread), Dilfer looked terrible. Davis is hurt, and the defense did not look good.

SF didn't have a pray against Seattle. Seattle was far from perfect, and they absolutely dominated SF. Dilfer was 12/33 for 128 yards and 2 ints and 2 fumbles (1 lost) (ouch!!!).

SF punted 10 TIMES in the game!!

Vernon Davis is also hurt and did not play.

They were very lucky to win their first two games, If Smith is out for the year, teams are going to get ahead of them early like Seattle did, thus making Gore irrelavent, they are in for a long season.

My guess is 5-11, but hoping for worse.

A bit too early to ask this but what the heck - If Dilfer is QB I think we can expect a top 5 pick at worst - Who is the best LB coming out of the draft?

We better go ILB this time around

Bruschi and Seau are bidding adeau next year - a near certainty

I agree that ILB is the biggest weakness on the team but a top 5 pick could mean another Richard Seymour. Obviously it all depends on who is available. Come draft time I will rely on the experts (Scott Pioli, Bill Belichick, Ron Borges) to do the right thing.

wow that is great news.
I'm pretty happy that he is out for the year.

I don't really want a top 10 pick but i'll take it.

good deal.

Everyone hold their horses on some of these comments..

1. Dilfer is NOT better than SMITH! Granted, Smith has started off slow this season but Dilfer is no way an upgrade over Smith. Did you see him look lost and get beaten up??

2. The 49ers could easily be 0-4 right now. They won by a total of 4 points in those two games.. Honestly if Arizona never went to a prevent defense, they would have won..

3. Lawson is out for the year and they are still learning to play the 3-4. They aren't good stopping the run and they can't be depended on to hold the fort while their offense sputters..

4. V. Davis has not panned out the way they figured when they made him their top pick last year..

don't be surprised if they finish 4-12 or 6-10..

You are right my friend. Alex Smith made excellent progress last year and would have continued that progress if the OL hadn't sucked so badly to start off this year. Also, Mike Nolan is not exactly an offense-minded coach. If you put Tom Brady behind the Niners OL, and gave him the 49ers coaching staff and receivers, I don't even want to think about it. Let's just say . Larry Allen, perennial all pro, has been lousy (maybe hurt) and he's the best they have on the OL. I agree with your season prediction for them, but what happened to 5-11?

Edit, and of course, the sieve that is the 49ers OL will be nothing but worse on an immobile Trent Dilfer. He'll be wishing he retired. Note that I like the 49ers a bit, preferring them over Oakland as a (distant) second team to the Patriots. Now I might as well root against them though because they have no chance to do anything this year.

Good luck in recovery. Now that that is out of the way, another way to look at the Niners draft selection is what teams will be below them: Dolphins, Rams, falcons, and Vikes. I think they fall in the second tier of teams which could be the Bills, Jets, Texans, Falcons. Don't think the Chargers, Saints, or Bears will stay down the whole season. Then again, what do I know, my weekend betting is miserable.

Should we start a Rocky Bernard fanclub????

So we have the Seahawks to thank for Merriweather (and the money to sign Moss, Welker, Stallworth, & Morris) and now this.......
