Oops, meant to post this in the draft forum - please move. Sorry.

Gosselin has Orakpo dropping and Kiper has him rising - I love draft gurus.

The author of the "Draft Bible" has a new 4 Rd mock as well where he has us taking the following:

Updated 2009 mock NFL draft: Mel Kiper breaks down the first four rounds - ESPN

23. New England Patriots (11-5)

Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut: Brown could end up being one of the more productive rookie backs in 2009 because of his all-around skills and tremendous character.

34. New England Patriots (from KC) : Connor Barwin, DE/LB, Cincinnati

47. New England Patriots (from San Diego): Sean Smith, CB, Utah

58. New England Patriots: Pat White, WR, West Virginia

89. New England: Cornelius Ingram, TE, Florida

97. New England (comp selection): Scott McKillop, LB, Pittsburgh

124. New England: Dan Gay, OT, Baylor

Mayo and Box, 34 alone made this mock draft successful in your eyes.

As mocks go, #34 would greatly improve these selections, the failure with this mock (and it's a major failing) is the absence of interior Offensive Linemen (Dan Gay might be okay for Pittsburgh or Chicago or Dallas - heavy footed drive blockers apply here - but he's no better than a paperweight to NE).

OK I'm confused. There was the Draft Bible 4 round but the link is to Mel Kipers mock which ends at pick #16.

Is Mel now a born again drafter?

Confused is normal for you.

The link is to Mel Kiper's 4 round mock on ESPN insider, and the picks listed by BPF are from that mock. Kiper's picks for the Pats are:

23 - Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut
34 - Connor Barwin, OLB, Cincinnati
47 - Sean Smith, CB/S, Utah
58 - Pat White, QB/WR, West Virginia
89 - Cornelius Ingram, TE, Florida
97 - Scott McKillop, ILB, Pittsburgh
124 - Dan Gay, OT, Baylor

Some of his other notable picks:

17 - Darius Heyward-Bey, WR
18 - Everette Brown, DE/OLB
19 - Josh Freeman, QB
20 - Michael Oher, OT
21 - Knowshon Moreno, RB
25 - Malcolm Jeninns, CB
26 - Vontae Davis, CB
28 - Eben Britton, OT
29 - Hakeem Nicks, WR
30 - Percy Harvin, WR
31 - Larry English, DE
32 - Eric Wood, OG/C
35 - Darius Butler, CB
36 - Clay Matthews, OLB
38 - Alex Mack, OG/C
39 - Brian Robiskie, WR
41 - William Beatty, OT
44 - Jarron Gilbert, DE
46 - Ziggy Hoot, DE/DT
51 - Louis Delmas, S
75 - TJ Lang, OT/G
78 - Jamon Meredith, OT
114 - Chip Vaughn, S
121 - James Casey, TE
128 - Mike Wallace, WR
134 - Dorell Scott, DT

I agree with Box that the lack of OL is a weakness. I like Donald Brown but don't see RB as a first day need. I like Sean Smith but would rather have Louis Delmas who is still available. And I don't like the Pat White pick.

My ideal draft following his order would be to trade #89 and #58 to move up to around #43 end up with the following:

23 - Connor Barwin, OLB
34 - William Beatty, OT - Darius Butler (35), Clay Matthews (36) and Alex Mack (38) would be tempting, but I stick with the pure LT
43 - Jarron Gilbert, DE - or Ziggy Hood if the FO prefers, though I prefer Gilbert
47 - Louis Delmas, S
97 - James Casey, TE
124 - Mike Wallace WR or Dorell Scott DT

That would be a nearly perfect first 4 rounds for me. Another option would be Malcolm Jenkins at 23 and Barwin at 34. That would be week on the OL, but Jenkins might be too good to pass up at 23:

23 - Malcolm Jenkins, CB
34 - Connor Barwin, OLB
43 - Jarron Gilbert, DE
47 - Louis Delmas, S
97 - James Casey, TE
124 - Trevor Canfield, OG

I might even like that one better. Much as I like Beatty, I don't know if I could take him over Malcolm Jenkins.

Mel Kiper is the author of the blue "draft bible." The mock is his most recent 4 rounder. Weak effort at best on his part, that's why I no longer buy his book.

Speaking of Kiper, out here Matt Haselback was on the Seattle news telling his Kiper story,,

Apparantly when Haselback was selected at #187, Kiper stated "That's a wasted pick".

At pick number 187?? Give a guy a break, and all Haselback did was become a pro-bowler with a trip to the Super Bowl.

Remember the rage here over the "waste" of a 7th rounder on Matt Cassel?

Mel's Big Board is nutz. Crabtree at 2! Is he crazy; have we learned nothing from Detroit?

Stafford and Sanchez at 3 and 5? No way. There have been so many QBs busts in the early picks, no GM will risk taking one of these guys that early. Of course there are still idiot owners calling the shot for some loser teams...

I listened to a recent podcast, Mel swears up and down that the Pats are looking at Donald Brown in round 1.

Did he say how he found this out? Was it because BB attended the Uconn pro day and spent a ton of time with the DB's?

A lot of tred wore off the Don Brown tires. But what a bulldog of a RB. He pounds and pounds defenses.

1. I'll be SHOCKED if we pick at #23. We're moving up.

2. Maroney, Morris, Taylor, Faulk... and we're going to use a first round pick at RB???
