3 needs, all filled, and the whining continues

I did not say the front office was irrelevant.
"KC is not winning Super Bowls because of their superior front office."

Pretty dismissive of the importance of the front office, no?

Whining about the draft or stating it was a success is crazy when the draft ended yesterday. This thread should be put on hold until the conclusion of the 2025 season then we can talk about if the draft was a success or a failure. LOL!
Its the same thing every season.

No, I was just stating the obvious. They've won three SBs mainly because of Patrick Mahomes.

And the front office.

When Thuney went down a low draft pick Guard stepped in without a hitch. Pacheco was a 7th round pick.

I know. But it was the front office which brought him to the team. Oh well.... 'round and 'round' we go.

Wallace would have been a LT at most schools just not at PSU. Don’t be schooled if they switch him to LT.

They say if he wasn't opposite Fashanu, he'd probably would have gotten more attention as a prospect.

If wolf hits on a couple of these mid round picks, I'll be stoked.

I get it. I don't want to argue about the value of the front office as my main point was that Belichick was not just bad at GM duties these last several years, he was bizarre. I believe Wolf will be better.

Belichick made tons of wild picks that were criticized at the time the picks were made and those criticisms proved to be right. There was not one pick this weekend that had me nearly as angry and confused as when we picked Cole Strange or [insert name of one of the many players that were overdrafted and/or ended up being busts]

We are going through a multi year rebuild process. But I do not feel like, after FA and the Draft, we made much progress. We needed QB, LT, WR. For none of this position we can check the "fixed" box.
1) Maye is a project we paid with the n. 3 overall pick. People are discussing sitting him for a few weeks/one year/two years, like it is normal business.
2) we do not have a clue about who will be our starting LT in week 1.
3) we drafted (overdrafted ?) 2 WR who are very similar to what we already have. Hopefully a better version of it. But none is the n. 1 guy the O needs.
With 2 and 3 not fixed we put Maye (if he plays...) in a very bad spot.
Given one of the thoughest schedule in the league, it will be a long season. And we will have a top 3 pick next year too.

If they thought Polk was so great why did they trade down from 34?

They then took Wallace over guys like Kiran Amegadjie and Matt Goncalves.

Overall I loved the draft. We had three obvious positions of need and didn't get cute and addressed them with our top 3 picks. Initially I didn't love the Polk pick but after seeing enough people I trust say he's not N'Keal 2.0 and the revelation that AD Mitchell might be a pain in the ass I have come around a bit on Polk.

Way back in 1957, Sports Illustrated perfectly described the results of a puppies-in-a-box "collaborative" approach to the Draft:

Child: Daddy, what is a camel?
Father: What is a what?
Child: What is a camel?
Father: A camel is a horse that was designed by a committee. - Sports Illustrated, 1957

Did they address needs? Yes. Do you HAVE to like the players they picked to fill those needs? Of course not. Otherwise, what's the point in scouting players or reading those reports? There are certain traits I look for that make me excited about a prospect. Some of these guys ticked too many red flags for ME. That makes it very much subjective. For me, the NFL is more about their ability to do things that AREN'T eye-catching. It's the stuff that isn't eye-catching that sets up what is in the league. A QB doesn't have to be fast, they have to be able to maneuver in a collapsing pocket. A WR doesn't need to be fast, either. It's their ability to 'sell' their routes, to read the defense's soft spots before the ball is even snapped. That's what let guys like Edelman and Welker thrive in this offense. Randy Moss, for all his athletic talents, would be nothing if he wasn't also a student of the game with an innate understanding of where he needs to go to get open.

Anyway, I'm babbling, but the point is that we all bring our understanding of the sport to the table when we evaluate these players.

I'm just happy to be free from the bizarre drafting strategy that plagued this organization for years. Even if Wolf is just mediocre, it is a huge step up. I'm cautiously optimistic for the first time in years. Of course, it mostly hinges on Maye.
Looking back at it.. alot of the drafting from prior year's was ego driven.. the " I know best " mentality. The collaborative approach is what everyone in the NFL does and is the best way to operate. I believe wolf has had an excellent draft and I say if maye is ready to play by week 1 by all means let him play.

Agree but you also don't see evidence we have NOT upgraded over BB's personnel decisions/organization.

Quite frankly there is nowhere to go but up after a 4-13 season and with the exception of a handful of players mediocre talent permeates throughout the roster.
What I believe keeps getting lost in the sauce is just how good and ready-made one side of the ball already is. We all know as fans the issues were offensively. 90% of it was addressed by solving the QB issue. IMO Drake is a talented QB that of course will need to acclimate to the NFL. If he's ready by week 1 I see no reason not to play him.

Folks wanted our future QB, a WR and an OT. We did all three while making our 5th a 4th. For me, I couldn't have expected more, although my personal preference was a CB at 37 instead of a WR.
================================
The QB is who we wanted and who the staff wanted. They will be given plenty of time to develop him. He is our QB for 2024-2026. We will evaluate him and make a decision whether to pick up his 5th year option, as we did with Jones, and the either extend or him or try again in the 2027 draft. The Jones choice at 15 didn't work out. The major failure was the poor coaching. With better coaching, we likely would still have drafted a QB this year, and Jones would have the bridge instead of Brissette. We took our turn at the golden ring. Only one of the QB's worked out.

The WR was one of a dozen WR's rated as having 2nd round value. The staff knows him well and will make sure that he doesn't fail. His ceiling is obviously TBD. But he is very unlikely to be a Shuster, a Parker or a Thornton.

The OT is a disappointment in that many of us wanted us to get a Guyton or Mims. We were OK with using 68 to move up to get one of the two, or perhaps even Morgan. Apparently, Wolf tried, but it takes two, so we settled for getting a WR and a developmental OT. He could be a future starter at almost any one of the line positions, or he could be a top backup, or he could be dud who doesn't work out after 2-3 years of trying. However, I am fine with waiting after the top 8 were gone. We took an OT rated lower than others. However, we also have higher rated WR than if we had drafted an OT in the 2nd and a WR in the 3rd.

BOTTOM LINE
Wolf did what he needed to do. And he has a chance at two more solid picks early in the 4th (instead of one).

The needs were not "filled," they were addressed. The jury is way, way out and this regime's plea for fans to be patient will be tested.

If Drake turns out to be what we believe can be then the draft is a success.

OK.

You would have taken Sumiataia who everyone except those who post here consider a major project, or Paul who many considered a 3rd rounder. Wanting an OT doesn't make him worth drafting at 37. Let's be clear. I was willing to use both our 2nd and 3rd to trade up for onr of the 1st round tackles, and I didn't want a WR at 37. In the end, I am fine with Polk and Wallace.
Mike McDaniels took Patrick Paul and Andy Reid took Kingsley Suamataia in the second round... give me a break. You telling me those guys suck at their job? The Dolphins and Chiefs ate our lunch in the second round, then the Pats took a WR in the 4th who is probably as good or better than the WR they reached for in the 2nd.

Also they blew two picks in the 3rd and 4th round on offensive lineman who had no business being drafted there and neither of whom can play left tackle.

The level of excuse making and shining this draft turd into the diamond to protect the collaboration station is absurd. Plus I just looked at the list of UDFA's they've brought in, every year there's usually one or two guys that make me sit up and take notice. The UDFA class is as dull as the draft class outside of Maye.

They will be bad in 2024 and will have a top pick next year. Draft the LT at that point and try to trade for or sign a top receiver. Or trade down for two first rounders, if that is an option, and then you can get the second/third best LT in the draft and get a WR1. If these things were to happen, and Maye develops, 2025 could have potential.
