#22 vs. #44, Position by Position

First, I think you're missing Worilds in your list of OLBs at 44. He is much smaller than Hughes or Graham, and is quicker.

...which is why I treated him as an ILB.

More importantly though, I think the reason we shouldn't just go BPA is because there are so many needs this year and the draft is so deep.

But don't those two factors work against each other? Depth is what gives you the luxury to wait. It's when a draft -- or at least a position -- runs shallow that you have to load up early.

That said...looking at the list again, I'm not crazy about waiting until #44 for an OLB. SOMEBODY will be there, but likely not the right somebody. I could see a modest trade down from #22 to pick up a 3rd then taking the OLB in the late 1st, or maybe taking a great value BPA at 22 then trading up a bit from 44 for an OLB.

OK, I meant to say he's NOT much smaller than Graham/Hughes. He's half an inch shorter than Hughes, same weight and same arm length. He's about 15 lbs lighter than Graham, but is the same height and slightly longer arms. He brings a log of speed of the edge, so I'd put him as an OLB.

The rest, I agree with you. The OLB difference is indeed significant, which is why I listed a bunch of OLBs as the only guys I'd take at 22. But if not, I'd rather trade down and take more players in a deep draft. By my count, there are 31 positional players (non-ST and non-QBs) on the current roster (including Lewis) who are "locks" to be on the 45 man game-day roster. So there are plenty of open spots and at least a couple of those 31 (Aiken, Fred Taylor, Connolly, Willhite) could be upgraded.

I am with you on this. Quality over quantity. #22 and #44 and our #1 in 2011 to Detroit or Washington for Suh.

i don't think BB would gave up two #1's and a #2 just to replace seymour,

He might for a player with abilities but it's also the $$$$$....

And this is based on what?
BB adapts. Due to NE's long winning streak they have only had one pick in the top half of the first since 2003...with twelve 2010 picks and two 2011 firsts, it just may be this is the year he makes a significant move up in the first. :confused2:
