2027 Watch List

Why? As I pointed out, Stevenson is signed through 2028. Yet, you seem to be talking about adding 2 MORE RBs after they just added Jam Miller and shelled out a decent contract for Myles Montgomery.

Help me understand why you'd use 2 very precious draft picks on a position that the Pats have 2 excellent players already..
Day 3 are so precious why are hanging them out like candy?

ND has more than 1 LB?

He's a bit like a Bryce Boettcher type. Very good at what he does and great character but may be more excellent college linebacker type, less projectible to the NFL.

Another ND player who is interesting is CB DJ McKinney who was at Colorado last year. He was being projected by some as a first round prospect last summer but had a down year. If he bounces back, ND's secondary and defense as a whole could be scary.

This year's Keionte Scott?

Xavier Atkins, LB, Auburn
6-0, 210

  • Like Scott, vey explosive and aggressive when attacking behind the LoS
  • However, very undersized for a linebacker. Where to play him?
  • 10 sacks last year from inside linebacker position speaks to his explosiveness.
  • Average coverage grade doesn't suggest a switch to safety. Like Scott, you want Atkins attacking, not dropping.
  • Only one full year under his belt so may not declare
  • However, sure to be a favourite for many. Very exciting prospect despite the limitations.

Some far too early predictions...well hunches and random thoughts really.

1. I'm very excited about the coming draft but there is one big red flag for me. Namely, the number of underclassmen. I have a feeling this draft won't be quite so exciting come the declarations deadline in mid January.

2. I can see Jamari Johnson v Trey'Dez Green being a Colston Loveland v Tyler Warren type battle. Either one could go ahead of the other and both could be top 15 at the end of the day.

3. With the caveat of 1 above, I am super excited about this EDGE class. There's lots to prove, but as I said in a previous post, I think there are genuinely, 16-20 prospects who could go in the top 3 rounds. four at the latest. For example, the Texas Tech duo, Adam Trick and Trey White, are ranked as the 24th and 25th edges on the consensus big board and you can't tell me they won't put up good numbers on that defense this year. Boubacar Traore is ranked 13th, Anto Saka 15th and Clev Lubin 17th. All are potentially day 2 worthy.

4. The CFB playoffs could be really interesting this season. Who do you pick from Oregon, Texas, Ohio State, Indiana and Notre Dame? And that list doesn't include Texas A&M, Miami or Georgia.

5. Related to the above. How far do LSU go? They have the talent, and the coach, to go far.

6. Still related to the above. I still haven't mentioned Ole Miss, Alabama, Michigan, Texas Tech and Oklahoma.

7. Two prospects that are barely being talked about, here or elsewhere that could have big rises. Georgia Tech's Justice Haynes who was dominating RB leaderboards until injury ruled him out, and Oklahoma's WR Isaiah Sategna who is super explosive and fast. Both aren't first rounders but could be solid day two picks.

8. i'm looking forward to seeing Eugene Wilson III this year who transferred to LSU. Injury ruined his season last year but he has the potential to be an exciting gadget/slot player.

You are more excited about the EDGE class than I am. Simmons, Stewart top 10, then Yhonzae Pierre and Boubacar Traore for me. There are a lot of 265-270# base ends - Kenyatta Walker, Damon Wilson, Matayo Uigalelei, Will Heldt, Adam Trick, etc. I'm not sure about those yet. Waiting to see before jumping on board.

Sacks last year:

Melkart Abou Jaoude - 12 (not included in my 16-20)
Teitum Tuiote - 11
Princewill Umanmielen - 11
Clev Lubin - 11
Will Heldt - 10
Damon Wilson - 8
Kenyatta Jackson - 8
Trey White - 8 (I'm giving him a Texas Tech boost)
Adam Trick - 8 (ditto)

Production is a pretty good base to start from.

That's 8. Add in the obvious Simmons & Stewart. That's 10. Then you have the likelies - Uiagelei, Pierre, Quincey Rhodes. That's 13. And then the projections - Saka, John Henry Daley, Jordan Ross, Boubacar Traore, Jaleel johnson. That's 18 and we're still not accounting for any 'come out of nowhere' prospects.

Speaking of potential come out of nowhere EDGEs.

1. Jonathan Maldonado, Ole Miss (formerly Nevada)

He's 6'6", 235 with a huge wing span. A slightly weird build but he had 7 sacks last year. Will he be found out at the SEC level, or is it a huge opportunity to boost his stock?

2. Taylor Wein, Oklahoma

Had 7 sacks in his first full year last year and probably gets to fill the R Mason Thomas role as EDGE 1 on the team. He's big at 6-4, 276 but has some bend to him.

3. Melkart Abou Jaoude, UNC

Not coming out of nowhere because he had 12 sacks last year but he's not really being discussed. Those sacks came in a bunch last year which is why I've not talked about him. He had a golden 3 game stretch where he had 3 sacks in each of the three games. I want to see him do it over the course of a season before getting interested in him.
