Williams was one of my favourite corners early-doors last season but got injured for the year in week 5. At the time, he had zero missed tackles and an 85 coverage grade to go with an 85 coverage grade the previous year. He transferred from Iowa State to USC.

The downside is that he's probably a nickel in the NFL.

Spoiler alert! They did let him leave.

He, Jacas and Jones would be a fun big guy 3-way weapon at EDGE.

I don't love his size as a starting EDGE, but he might well be one of my favourite options as a day 2 DPR alternative to Jacas and Jones. He has had two years of outstanding pass rush production.

There are some good big EDGEs this year: Heldt, Damon Wilson, Kenyatta Jackson, and others.

I want another EDGE, but currently am leaning towards guts like Yhonzhae Pierre and Boubacar Traore. Haven't thought much about another base end.

Yup. I'm thinking about more of a mid-round DPR as a fit for the roster.

The thing about this draft is that the EDGE classs doesn't look great on initial research, but there are so many who have gone to really good situations:

Anto Saka to Texas A&M
Jordan Ross/Princewill Umanmielen to LSU
Damon Wilson to Miami
Qua Russaw to Ohio State (from 'Bama)
Trey White/Adam Trick to Texas Tech
John Henry Daley to Michigan

All showed promise last year but are now in great positions to prove themselves at a high level. It's one of the early stories of the draft for me.

The first paragraph is spine-tingling in terms of anticipation. The two ACL tears though.

Scouting Report: Summary​

Viliamu-Asa's sophomore tape showed a linebacker who can play all three downs and move around a defensive structure without losing assignment discipline. That is the separator. NFL coordinators want linebackers who can handle a MIKE role in base, slide to WILL in sub packages, and rush off the edge on third down, and Viliamu-Asa does all three with confidence. His run defense is already at an elite level for a college sophomore, and the coverage jump from year one to year two was steep enough to suggest he is still climbing. With a full healthy junior season, there is a real chance he enters the draft conversation as the best off-ball linebacker available.

The knee history has to be addressed honestly. Two ACL tears on opposite knees before age 21 will require thorough medical evaluation, and every team will have its own threshold. But the first tear happened when he was 15, he came back and performed at a high level through the rest of high school, and then posted one of the best sophomore linebacker seasons in recent college football. That track record matters. Adding some functional weight to his 230-pound frame without sacrificing his lateral quickness would help him hold up better against bigger offensive linemen at the next level.

Viliamu-Asa fits best in a defense that values linebacker versatility and wants its inside backers to do more than absorb blocks and fill. His instincts, range, length, and three-down capability give him a first-round profile, and if the 2026 season confirms what the 2025 tape already shows, he should hear his name called early on draft night.

He's interesting. He's 230lbs but had more snaps at slot corner (315) than he did at LB (174). And the grades stand up.

Coverage grade - 78.8
Run Defence - 79.8
Tackle - 81.9 (5 missed tackles).

Sure sounds like a core special teamer that can provide cover at a number of defensive spots.

"Last season, Curry was a staple of Tech special-teams coverage units. This year, he might be able to branch out a little just within the defense.

"He's another guy that brings a lot of versatility," Tech coach Joey McGuire said. "As we go into games, and let's say we're playing a heavy two-tight-end team, he's a guy that can play inside linebacker, but we also can him move to the star, the safety position and have a guy that's 230 pounds and can play in space, but also set an edge and defensively stop the run.

"He's so smart, and he's like (quarterback) Behren (Morton): You cut those guys, they bleed red and black. This is their dream school....It's really cool to have a guy that loves this place so much, passionate, extremely talented, and has a high football IQ."
