I don't think we should or will, but if ever there was a year to suck, this is the year.

This is complete speculation on my part and is not to be taken too seriously and there many many moving parts for this to become a reality but hear me out.

1. I'm curious about the rumours that we might be trading a 2028 1st for AJ Brown rather than a 2027 2nd. The values are the same but why push that pick so much into the future?

2. I was fascinated by the interest they showed pre-draft in Milton Williams type DTs rather than run defending DTs.

3. With teams being willing to trade multiple firsts for high quality players, I've thought it would be nice to be on the receiving end of that action.

So here's my theory.

1. We trade a 2028 first for AJ Brown
2. We draft a Milton Williams replacement in '27. David Stone or Ahmad Moten for example.
3. We trade Milton Williams after the '27 season for a '28 first plus.

Like I said, far too many moving parts for this to be a serious suggestion, it was just something that occurred to me that helps make sense of stuff I've been thinking about.

25. Zach Lutmer, Iowa
Lutmer (6-0, 205) bypassed the 2026 NFL Draft and is one of the most-unique defensive prospects for next year. He played slot corner, box safety and even logged snaps on the defensive line for the Hawkeyes, and he totaled 71 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions. Lutmer is drawing comparisons to Cooper DeJean – who was a second-round pick in 2024.

Very interesting prospect. I will never forgive passing on Cooper DeJean in 2024.

"Peal has struggled to come away with turnovers in his college career (0 interceptions), but he does everything else correctly. His phenomenal tackling, willingness against the run and sticky coverage to limit big gains led to a PFF grade (85.1) that ranked highest in the ACC last season."

He had two years at Georgia where he barely got on the field but then transferred to Syracuse and had a strong year grades wise. Not perfect, zero interceptions and a 65% reception percentage are areas that need to be improved but if he does make a year on year improvement, he could be competing for CB2 in this class.

Austin Siereveld has been a binky for almost 8 months now, but he's not the only Buckeye OL to watch. Luke Montgomery could be a potential IOL candidate:

He's young (turns 21 in Sept) but experienced (3 year starter at Boise St., over 2000 snaps played), athletic, productive, great length (6'3" 208#), and high character.

We just need to work on getting him engaged or married in the next 11 months.

Not rubbishing this because Brugler has him as a first rounder, but 26 missed tackles (20%) is a little worrisome. His missed tackle rate has got worse year on year.

At least the difference between him and Genesis Smith is that Benefield wants to tackle.

Let's start with the bad.

3. Was at N Texas but transferred to Oklahoma St with his QB Drew Mestermaker.

The good.

1. 70 receptions for 1,264 yds last year and 10 TDs
2. The most missed tackles forced of any WR last season.
3. not only is he the 4th highest graded draft eligible receiver against man coverage, he's also the 4th highest graded against zone. It's rare to see anyone who grades high against both.

Basically he grades extremely highly at any receiving metric you care to mention . It will be interesting to see if he can keep up that level of production in the step up to Oklahoma State.

Well I might have just found my De'Zhaun Stribling, although I hate to get ahead of myself.

Nyziah Hunter, WR, Nebraska
6'1", 205

I think I'm over-compensating for all my old fogies from last year. Hunter is another true junior.

Compare and contrast with Stribling.

1. Hunter is an inch shorter but the same weight.
2. Stribling was timed at 22.5mph max, Hunter 21.9 mph so not a big difference.
3. Hunter had a higher run blocking grade than either Stribling or Boston, the two highest in the last draft.

Tell me this doesn't look like a Stribling TD with the way he leaves defenders in his dust.
