2027 Watch List

Dashawn Spears, Safety, LSU
6-3,210

He was a backup/role player last year so bear in mind that he played a quarter of the snaps a starting safety did. But even so:

1. Best coverage grade of any returning safety.
2. Top 10 run defense grade
3. The best missed tackle percentage of any leading returning safety.*

I really do think he could be battling for Safety 1 with Bolden. Spears has it all - size, coverage ability, good against the run. The only thing I need to see is how he fares athletically.

* Not a bad top 3 for missed tackles.

1. Dashawn Spears - 4.2%
2. KJ Bolden - 4.9%
3. Jelani McDonald - 5.4%

Speaking of Ole Miss. I've just been trying to work out what to do with Suntarine Perkins. Is he one of those prospects that is exceptional in college but doesn't find a positional home in the NFL or can he work as a LB/EDGE hybrid?

Really want that eventual Davis replacement in 2027, ready to take over by 2028.

I'm not worried about a Davis replacement. I'm worried about having someone who can step in if Gonzalez forces the issue.

With what McDuffie got, the Pats need to understand that Gonzalez is going to cost at least $31M AAV with 100M guaranteed. I can easily see Gonzo wanting $40M AAV with 120M guaranteed.

I'd like to see them get a deal done before 2027, but I think it's going to be a tough one to get done the longer it drags out.

Not re-signing Gonzo would be a blunder of epic proportions. Not even considering that one.

Agree that the price goes up every day.

From Salary Cap standpoint one should draft CB high (rd 1-2) every other year or so.
After Gonzo Pats didnt draft a single top corner.
The highest CB this new administration drafted in 3 years was Prunty this year w pick #171. And its not like they hit on some udfas either. Thats borderline incompetence in my book. They are still riding on two consecutive BB picks (Marcus Jones & Gonzo) plus Davis who was a good FA addition but has 3rd highest cap number at 22M.
The problem is you're not putting yourself in a good position like this going forward and you're giving the leverage away..

That's the problem with completely rebuilding the roster. You can't draft one position in the 1st-2nd every year. Although you can draft a first round LT every year it seems.

Just going through last years Freaks List looking for nuggets about this years class.

Arion Carter, LB, Tennessee - 40.3" vertical jump
A'Mauri Washington, DT, Oregon - 36" vert, 20.89 mph
Tony Rojas, LB, Penn State - 4.37 forty, 37.5" vert, 4.05 shuttle
Jaccarius Peak, OT, S Carolina - 32.5" vert, 4.86 forty, 4.37 shuttle
Chris D'Appolonia, LB, Syracuse - 6'3, 245, 22mph, 34.5" vert
Jide Abasiri, DT, USC - 1.60 ten yard split
Anto Saka, EDGE, TAMU - 36.5" vert

Tony Rojas period, Peak's shuttle and Abasiri's 10 yard split all very appealing.
