2027 Mock Drafts

Well I'd say 7 because we've been one of the eight. hopefully that's over.
God I hope so! Between that and what I think is the possibility of 5 QBs, the Pats could have a golden opportunity to add an impact talent next spring even picking at 32

Brain fart. Thx for the correction.

I agree with @JoeSixPat that it probably makes financial and roster sense to pick an OL high almost every year. I'd like to see us take one top 4 rounds next year and finish the OL build out, but preferably not 1st round.

Right now my hope is for a versatile G/T or IOL. My wish list is:

Jacarrius Peak
Kade Pieper
Austin Siereveld
Carter Smith
PJ Williams
Cayden Green

With a half dozen plus other potential OTs (Seaton, Goosby, Prongos, Paige, Frazier, Heard, Moore), and a couple of IOLs, I'm hoping someone will slip. 15 OLs went in the top 100 in 2026, 17 in 2025, 23 in 2024.

Positional depth and relative value may play a role. In 2024 the Pats took Jared Wilson at 95 over S Xavier Watts, but found Craig Woodson at 106.

Safety is potentially loaded for 2027:

KJ Bolden
Jelani McDonald
Tae Johnson
Ty Benefield
Koi Perich
Zach Lutmer
Dashawn Spears
Bray Hubbard
Marcus Neal
Keon Sabb
Amare Ferrell
Tao Johnson
Rod Moore
Terry Moore
Jamel Johnson

In 2026 7 safeties went in the top 100 picks. The #15 S was Lorenzo Styles at 172.

Too many ? marks on OL to expect finishing the build up so id scout them high and hope to draft again unless they are happy with mediocre. There will be some FA/trade options esp IOL but i wouldnt mind at all drafting another OL high in THIS CLASS.

They blundered so much over the last decade at this crucial position double dipping in weak classes (2017, 2019, 2023) and completely punting or waiting too long in rare great classes (2021, 2024) and finally panicked in 2025 taking non blue chip player with #4.

I hope somebody learned the lesson and wont stop until the unit is rock solid if not dominant (which would be my goal although with Maye not necessary). Well, at least they are trying..

Yup, perfect comment. They have finally recognized the importance and are focusing on it. The attacks and defense of Campbell are curious. Who cares? Everyone competes and we put the best 5 in the best position combinations on the field.

Wilson seems limited to center (last year at guard was not great). Onwenu is a RG - again limited. And Moses is a right tackle. AVT is flexible at LG or RG. Lomu is flexible at LT, or maybe RT. We don't know if Campbell has any position flexibility. So we will see what happens and what injuries pile up.

I am going to love mocking this year although choosing between first round options is going to be a nightmare.

Here's a 5 rounder. First mock of the year for me.

22. A'Mauri Washington, DT, Oregon

An impossible choice. I could have had Echols, Moten, Viliamu-Asa and Becker. But I asked myself who is the young prospect, with outstanding athleticism and loads of upside. It probably didn't rule out the alternatives, but I went with Washington.

54. Chris Peal, CB, Syracuse

If the question is "who is the 2nd best graded coverage corner behind Leonard Moore?" and "who is the 2nd best graded tackler at CB?", the answer to both questions is 'this guy'.

86. Jelani Mcdonald, S, Texas

Excellent size, excellent athleticism and a binky from last year. How could I not?

122. Ray Coney, LB, Texas A&M

A transfer from Temple, the step up in class will get him talked about a lot more this year. 2nd only to Viliamu-Asa in defensive grades last season. Whit Weeks was a possibility here too.

158. Nyziah Hunter, WR, Nebraska

My early 'this year's De'zhaun Stribling' competitor. Best blocking WR in class with explosive athleticism after the catch.

162. Ben Roberts, LB, Texas Tech

Criminally underrated by Mock Draft Database so take advantage while he's still there. LB room fixed!

Which board did you use?

The problem I have with mocks is that every database always criminally underrated a bunch of guys. So do you go by their board and take guys day 3 that you know aren't day 3 prospects, or do you "reach" for them based on where you expect them to end up?

No good answer.

PFSN has LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-asa at 89, S Ty Benefield at 149. Lots of other "bargains".

NFL Mock Draft Database.

I think it's very good although they've left some really good players right at the bottom of the board. Ben Roberts is 847th, Jontez Williams is 934th so it's far from perfect.

I always try to make common sense picks rather than cheating the board. If a pick feels unrealistic, I tend not to make it.

When I mock PFSN, it is against the law to draft a true So or RS Fr (my rule). No falling in love with someone who won't be in the 2027 draft. Jr is okay for now.

Despite the Lomu drafting, it's a pretty good rule. The trouble is, there's so many fun ones.

I'm not recording many mocks at this point. I play with the simulator, mainly to see where prospects are. PFSN had Carter Smith at 104, but now he's at 40.

My general approach:

1st round: BPA, defense preferred. Jamari Johnson and Charlie Becker are usually gone, tempting if available. CB Ellis Robinson is tempting if available, having 2 shutdown outside CBs would be awesome. But usually this comes down to DT (Washington, Moten, Echoles) vs. LB (Viliamu-asa, Brown).

2nd round: OL. Austin Siereveld, Cayden Green, Brandon Baker and Kade Pieper are usually off the board, now Carter Smith as well. PJ Williams is at 66 on the PFSN board right now, Jacarrius Peak 85. Any of those 7 would be a great addition. Peter Clarke is tempting, as would DT if not picked round 1.

3rd round: Safety or LB.

4th round: LB or safety.

I'm team defense all the way in the first next year but I struggle to see past Charlie Becker. A bit silly to draft a WR 3 in the first except:

a) I think he's a perfect Maye/Vrabel WR

b) Who better to be the long-term AJ Brown replacement after 2-3 years of Brown?

Where do you stand on David Stone who wasn't on your list?

Used PFSN, traded around a bit, got the following through 4 rounds (also picked up a 2028 4th, gave up a 6th):

36. A'Mauri Washington, IDL, Oregon. Highly unrealistic, IMO. Will Echoles was also available.

61. Kyngstonn Viliamu-asa, LB, Notre Dame.

76. Kelley Jones, CB, Mississippi St.

82. Jacarrius Peak, OL, S. Carolina.

92. Ty Benefield, S, LSU.

130. Boubacar Traore, EDGE, Notre Dame.

Benefield was ranked 150 on PFSN's board, Traore 269, but I traded up for both.

In real life I would be stoked to get 2-3 of those guys.

Stone seems to be consensus DT1 at this point and a top 15 pick, so I haven't been including him, and haven't yet studied him closely. Of course, people were mocking Peter Woods #1 overall this time last year, so anything can happen.
