2026 Draft: Quarterbacks

The S Carolina defense are really applying the pressure today but he's up to the task. He's very impressive. Let's hope the Jets do something stupid.

I've been reasonably impressed by Lanoris Sellers today too.

That would be the "something stupid" part.

Very talented.

Not ready.

If Sellers enters the transfer portal and goes somewhere with a good QB developmental coach, he could be really good.

QB evaluation is just so hard. Rob Staton - whose eye I really respect - had a 2nd round grade on Drake Maye in 2024, similar to Spencer Rattler:

Players I’m lower than the consensus on

At no point have I watched Drake Maye and felt like I was watching someone with the ability to become a top-10 quarterback in the NFL. His footwork needs fixing, he misses too many easy throws and his decision making is highly erratic at times. He lacks the supreme physical upside to balance out the flaws. The magical moments often felt a bit flukey, rather than inspired.

I don’t think he’s a bad prospect. I have him in round two, essentially as a top-45 player. I rate him in the same way I rated Jordan Love. He was given time and patience to develop and that’s what Maye needs.

I also understand why a team would take him as early as say third overall. When you need a quarterback, you have to take shots. If you put him on a team with a sensational offensive mind and let him sit for a year or two, that would be an attractive proposition. I’d have a hard time trading a massive haul for him though — and neither the Commanders or the Patriots have that sensational offensive mind leading their teams.

If I were New England, I’d take whatever Minnesota’s offering to get up to #3 and if they’re determined to draft a quarterback — I’d take Michael Penix Jr at #11 instead, after collecting a haul of picks.

This is not a criticism. Anyone willing to go out on a limb deserves respect, because we can all be spectacularly wrong.

In my continued quest to find an athletic QB to build around for a specialist playbook for a backup QB. I give you Byrum Brown of USF.

Just to reiterate my argument. Having a plug and play backup QB doesn't make sense in the NFL because you're getting a massive downgrade at the position which means you have to resort more to the run to compensate which becomes predictable and then you're forcing your worse backup QB into more 3rd and long positions for which they're not really capable.

So build a more limited playbook that supports the unique skills of an athletic, but limited QB, that plays to their strengths. It won't make you become a playoff team over a whole season, but it might get you through 3-4 weeks should it be needed. See Josh McDaniels' Cam Newton offense.

or see Jacoby Brissett offense Josh put together when Brady and Garoppolo were both out.

Sorry to hear that, assume he's out of 2026 draft, and Jordyn Tyson's numbers will take a hit.

I think Tyson will be OK draft wise though. I think there's more than enough film on him to guarantee him a top 15 spot, and more likely top 10.

I agree, I don't think it will affect his draft stock, but his production the rest of the season may not be as gaudy.
