I dunno. Despite that last second loss to KC, I really thought the team that was going back n forth w Mahomes a few years back was a legitimate SB contender.

But « yes », they haven’t won the trophy and that is all that counts in the end. Close isn’t winning.

What’s an earball?

It was a reference to "its always sunny in Philly". It just sounded funny to me that the commentator said "Allen never heard him coming" instead of saw him coming, and it made me think of that show.
