Had a season ending knee injury and surgery in October but there are no more details than that other than that he's expected to be healthy by spring.

He might run a sub 4.4 forty which at 6'3" is the golden zone for a potential X receiver. He makes some spectacular catches although there have been some drops in '22 and '23.

Sounds like we can apply more focus on the draft for a WR. Not saying that changes my rankings. As of today I don't grade any of them worthy of a 1st.

I don't know if it really does, what we really need is a surefire #1 that will lift the WR room, and the guys that are going to walk in and be the guy week 1 don't seem to be in this draft.

Yeah but Higgins was the only one in free agency. At least in the draft there's a chance he develops into a 1.

There's an argument to be made that if you drafted Tyler Warren, he'd be your receiver 1. At least by 2026.

I'm not saying it's the way to go put it has some potential. Sign a Slayton or Hollywood Brown to give you speed on the outside, draft Tyler Warren in the first and then Elic Ayomanor/Jayden Higgins/Tre Harris/Tory Horton and spend the money you saved on Tee Higgins on defense. It's probably better in the long run than investing 30m and a valuable draft pick on an oft-injured WR.

I just looked him up and he was a coaching assistant for a couple of teams. Wouldn't hurt to bring him in for help.

I get it everyone wants to improve the WR room, I just think there are holes are can be better filled this year vs chasing a WR that eventually could be a #1, but would likely be another #2 or #3 at best.

I'm not naive in thinking that a #1WR solves everything. I just think with the likelihood that we aren't getting Higgins that it becomes more likely that we at least give it some consideration. If it comes down to Grant/Ersery vs Tre Harris at 38 than I'd choose the trenches over the WR.

BUT if you said Tyler than I'd choose him over the trenches.

I will take 1 please. They have his height listed at 6-3 but I don't think he is that tall.

I was studying WR stats to find receivers that fit what Vrabel said he's looking in a WR as regards being good on contested catches and YAC and I'll do a seperate post on that but one really intriguing name came up. Now based upon what happened at the Titans, I'm working on the theory that the offense under Vrabel could be one features play action deep passes as a key aspect of the offense so including both of those ideas, we'd be looking for a deep threat receiver who's good on contested catches and gets plenty of yards after the catch.

To that end, here's Deont'e Thornton Jnr of Tennessee. He's 6-5, 214lbs and allegedly runs in the low 4.4s.

First here's what he's not. He's not someone with wiggle or someone who runs a complex route tree or someone who's highly productive (only 26 receptions on 34 targets this season).

What he is, is a dangerous deep threat. He scored 6 TDs from those 26 receptions. He leads all draft eligible receivers on yards per reception with 25.5 and on YAC/RR on 10.7. He's 3rd on y/RR with 3.74 and has a contested catch rate of 75%.

NFL Draft Buzz have him ranked in the 5th round but he could be a combine riser. He's not DK Metcalf but he's similar in how you would play him.

So after digging into Mr Thornton and hearing Maye mention that he liked throwing to Nico Collins at the Pro bowl it made me wonder if Thornton is our Nico knock off

Height and size wise they certainly seem similar although I wonder what Thornton's 3-cone is like. Collins had a 6.79. Looking at their two respective scouting reports, I'd say that's a good comp.

There has been lots of videos, stat sheets, opinions, ravings, about one rec or another. So my question is, if these guys are so good, which seems to be the case put forwards with most of them. Why then are we not more enthusiastic about taking one first round or at the latest second?

Fair question. For me at least, it's about finding value. Unless it's a trade down, we're not taking a first round WR and I don't think there's a huge gap between the top 2nd round WRs and prospects like Horton, Bryant, Kyle Williams and Jalen Royals. But they don't tick every box, whether due to height/weight, speed or competition level so we're just trying to find those receivers that tick enough boxes to add enough value in the later rounds to benefit the roster.

Every year videos get made explaining why this guy is the best or that is. I think most of them are made by family members. I think another reason we lack enthusiasm is because we have more holes than WR. I honestly don't think Tet is that much better than Jayden Higgins or Burden is much better than Jalen Royals, for the things I like in a WR.

I think Hunter has the best traits as a WR but he mostly sticks to one side of the formation and his routes are pretty raw (doesn't tempo consistently, release seems inconsistent). Has easy drops as do most WRs
