2025 Draft: WRs

I know you guys aren't going to like this, but I have a feeling there won't be many WRs picked in NE this year, and probably nothing before day 3. I think they are going to do their everything they can to get a talented Vet in the building, and then see who if the other guys can play with him. After 90% of the draft being Offense last year, you are going to see a swing back to Defense (front 7) and big uglies.

There are no Alpha #1s in this draft, and that is what the team needs, not more 3s and 4s (and worse)

I don't mind it at all. The quality of WRs isn't great in this draft, even the 2nd rounders don't thrill me. I'd much rather look to the strengths in this draft on the DL and, perhaps, RB.

Agreed. I'd add a TE if they don't resign Hooper. Tet wouldn't even be a 1st rounder last year. I'm adding day 3 depth piece like Ja'Corey Brooks if possible.

Once again I find myself catching the eye of another while scouting someone else..

Unfortunately he may be most famous for this

Why do I post this? Use this as a way to calibrate your eye to our baseline. As you're looking for prospects at the X receiver spot, ask yourself if you think they'll do better against players like Stingley or Sauce. If you hesitate to answer yes definitively, move on to a different prospect. We need upgrades, not just shots in the dark, IMO.

That said, I've always loved finding sleepers and rooting for the underdogs, so I guess I'm guilty of not following my own advice!

I've been thinking about this and WFJ is right. Assuming we sign or trade for a no 1 receiver, unless the drafted WR is going to be better than Boutte then at best he's going to be the 5th best receiver on the roster next year after the FA signing, Boutte, Douglas and Henry. And if you include Bourne, then possibly even 6th best which of course means limited playing and development time.

Boutte and Bourne can definitely be improved upon but is your day 3 WR going to be the one to do it? It's probably unlikely.

What if it's a guy like Savion Williams who could conceivably play RB?

I wouldn't draft him for that reason although it would be a bonus. However, McDaniels wasn't able to turn Cordarelle Patterson into much of an offensive weapon so I doubt he'd be able to for Savion.

No, you draft Savion if you think he can be a good WR which means showing that he can get off press and demonstrating, in interviews, that he can be part of an offense that heavily uses option routes. He has the raw skills to be better than Boutte but it all comes down to whether he can learn the offense.

I just think he's unique in that he has both a high ceiling(DK comps) and a high floor as a possible RB depth piece.

While I agree with this, my one exception at 38 is Tre Harris from Ole Miss. He is my top WR in this draft and I think he could legitimately be a #1 WR in the NFL. I just see a little bit of Dez Bryant in him.

His production last year was off the charts, even though he missed a number of games due to injury. He’s got the size, athleticism and production you want in a high level draft prospect and he has also showed major improved each year.

Also a fun fact, he was Malik Nabers HS QB

The one thing that puts me of Harris are the reports that the Ole Miss offense is supposed to be a simplistic one and, considering our failures at converting college WRs to our offense over the years, that concerns me. I agree that statistically he ticks a whole bunch of boxes. I'm going to be worried about drafting any WR until we prove we can actually do it and translate it to the NFL.

Very interesting on the converted to QB to WR front Tre Harris and Nick Nash. Tre Harris reminds me of A.J. Brown and DK Metcalf in one. Nick Nash looks like a player.
