2024 NFL Draft Thread (Continued..)

If it were up to me in this draft: Maye or Daniels at QB (in that order). A solid OT prospect. At WR, Leggette, and perhaps Brenden Rice (Jerry's son). Zak Zinter OG/C. And at least one RB (Braelon Allen or Trey Benson. At TE Cade Stover. And if we needed to trade a pick from the 2025 draft to do it, get Maason Smith DT. Just a few thoughts.

Good afternoon Cousins,. So it starts. ...........Had a hearty breakfast this morning of bacon crisp and eggs over easy with some fresh oatmeal toast and strawberry jam. A cup of tea (yes prefer coffee but .....) and some cranberry pomegranate juice.

Interesting scenario with the Justin Fields trade mentioned. His stats are close to Jones . He has had much better receivers which is disconcerting. He has a better arm than Jones. He can scramble better than "turtle" Jones and he has more potential. I think Jones has the better football capacity and makeup, but he has had all of the best until he reached the pros and so far a failure on the field.

If I were starting a game tomorrow Fields would be my QB. .....but still kind of hold my nose. A change of scenery might be best for both. Look how Geno developed. Maybe Goff to a smaller extent.

I would like to say that none of the top four or five 2024 candidates are Canton material. You as a Pats fan must decide if 1) you want to wait about three years of terrible results without a sniff at the playoffs (are we better than the Bills, Dolphins or Jets with Aaron?) Or do we have too many holes to plug that one "definite maybe" young aspiring QB will make a difference? 2) Let's stock up on some legitimate "hole fillers" now and continue to build a Team but remain competitive.

So O.K. I like the thinking of the Fields trade. as an option which still frees up another blue chip player to Draft.

We offer up another scenario for your pleasure of mispleasure which could package us a vet QB which we need regardless, and a couple other hole fillers. The Broncos are trying to deal Wilson. They are in CAP and pick hell. We can afford him. He was not that bad in 2023. Over 66% completions, over 3,000 yards and 26 TDs and 8 INT. He did not fit with Payton so they mothballed him for the last two games to trade him. Would the Bronco's want #3? Yep.

My proposal would be the Bronco's #12 pick, Wilson, LT Garrett Boles (31 and still playing at a high level) and WR Jerry Juedy (not a Payton favorite) for our #3 pick and Mac Jones.

At pick #12 we could go top end OT or WR unless one of the top QBs drop.We could even trade down and get a good WR or OT in a good class.
Then at pick #34 I am suggesting we look at this kid. Michael Pratt from Tulane. If he was at a big name school he might be a top ten pick with the right Team like a Georgia. We let him learn for Wilson,

Arm Strength7.7/10
Accuracy8.0/10
Mechanics8.5/10
Ball Placement8.4/10
Throwing Motion8.4/10
Progressions7.7/10
Decision Making7.8/10
Functional Mobility8.8/10
Durability7.8/10
Poise8.1/10
Grade81.2/100 Second Round
Pratt is a talented player but lacks the higher-end tools that are needed to be a first round quarterback. He did a really good job elevating the talent around him at Tulane and can attack the defense in multiple ways, but not being able to drive the ball outside the numbers will limit him at the next level.
Pratt is mechanically sound. He is consistent with his drop-back and his footwork and his release is crisp.

Has a fair amount of zip on the ball when playing in rhythm. Sees the field well and has no issue driving the ball into tight windows.

Shows good ball placement to all levels of the field. Can throw with good placement while on the move or with his base underneath him.

Pratt is plenty comfortable on the move. He is trying to throw the football initially before taking off which is also a plus. Pratt has good burst from the pocket and can eat up chunks of yards in the open field.

Thoughts or threats?

Don’t give up the #3 pick for Wilson. His contract is miserable and Denver has to move him after benching him, I think.

Here is an idea:

Instead of just trading up the early second rounder, giving up the 3rd as well to get back into the 1st round. Maybe we are willing to give up a 2nd in 2025 in order to to have three picks within the top 40 or so?

Basically ship our 25 2nd, this years 3rd, for a pick high in the second round. This way we can land QB at 3, and an OT and WR in the early second.

You hit on these three, and this offense transforms entirely.

I’m fine with that, the talents at WR and OT has a so strong that they could come away with starters at QB, WR, and LT., and the earliest a 2025 2nd rounder would likely contribute significantly is 26’.i would like to see them be smart in free agency and aggressive in the draft.

The more you watch Bo Nix, the more you see a great mix of pocket & mobility. He's a playmaker.
#3 is too valuable to screw up by gambling on a WR or QB...

My perfect plan:
[sign/trade steady FA QB (Browning, Mills, Brissett, etc.)]
Trade down to mid 1st round - pick QB Nix
Use our 2nd rounder - pick WR Coleman or Legette
Use extra 2nd rounder from trade - pick best available LT
Take Harrison Jr at 3 trade back up into the 20s for Nix.

Sleep like a baby.

l Like your input Cousin,
I have a big problem with the top three picks......maybe Caleb escapes this scrutiny because he has some "playground" in him like Mahomes and Jackson, but he is frail.
The other two look "Christain Ponderish" ....like jammed into the first round.I ask my Cousins if they have seen the tape on these supposed first round QB's?
I am becoming a MHJ fan quickly. It has always been a mantra of the Draft. That should be MHJ.Maye and Daniels both have potential but filled with flaws. So wait.......I have seen Penix play. I have seen Bo Nix play. Better tape.
Penix has elite ball placement and only sacked five times last year. Might be there at #34.
If you walked away with MKJ and Penix or Nix as your first two picks now you are talking.

But I think the best play is Justin Fields who seemed to be coming into his own the last few months. He had better college tape and guess what....he has NFL tape. You own him for two years left. I am not a Fields Fan Boy. I see what I saw. Nyet on Maye and Daniels.

Hear is my proposal Trade Jones and our #3 pick for the Bears #9 pick and a 2025 conditional pick. Draft your best OT at pick #9 and perhaps get Leggett form U.S.C. at #34

Better odds doing this than a kid you could miss.

How about - No F*cking Way.

Fun fact: if they trade Wilson, his 2024 cap hit goes up $30M+. Cutting him before 6/1 is even worse.

Nobody is taking him that early.

Daniel Jeremiah knows a hell of a lot more about the draft than you ever will and he’s got him going to the Saints at #14. This idea that teams can **** around and move all over the place and still come away with the player they want is pure fantasy. A team can structure their draft board, have an idea of where groupings of positions will be strong and weak, and make moves to get a positiont at certain areas of the draft, but not specific players, unless it’s a totally off the wall selection. I’m sure there were plenty of teams that were sure Jahmyr Gibbs was going to be around in the 20’s in the last draft, only to watch the Lions come out of nowhere to take him well ahead of that. The Patriots have the worst QB’s in football, and if they **** this up they are going to stay that way for years to come, so while you can play cute doing your home mocks they don’t have that luxury, they need to get their QB, and if that’s Bo Nix then take him at #3, and don’t screw it up by playing it cute and thinking you are smarter than everyone else, because if they think he’s a franchise QB then other teams are going to have the same grade on him.

And if there’s one thing that I’m certain of, it’s that given the amount of **** you sling at the wall you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Don’t give up any pick for Wilson. The reason Denver is getting rid of him is because he had a good running game and good receivers and he still sucked. He was a good player once upon a time, but Seattle went with Geno Smith over him, and Denver benched him and put Jarret Stidham in. And as Patriots fans we certainly know what that meant.

Very hard to figure the best potion to pursue at QB until we know who the offensive coordinator is going to be.

Also our offensive tackles are a dumpster fire that needs upgrading and our receivers are a miserable group as well!

The lack of talent on offense is depressing! Thank you BB the GM!!!!!
