2023 Mock Drafts

Pretty happy with how this Fanspeak mock turned out, except no OT fell to me at any of my picks, so I took a shot on Wilson from Quincy in the 7th, 6-foot-6, 325-pound, 84-inch wingspan, 37-inch arms, and 10.5-inch hands. Worth a shot, right?

14: R1 P14 CB Devon Witherspoon - Illinois
46: R2 P15 TE Darnell Washington - Georgia
76: R3 P13 LB Jack Campbell - Iowa
107: R4 P5 WR Rashee Rice - SMU
117: R4 P15 DE Adetomiwa Adebawore - Northwestern
135: R4 P33 S Quan Martin - Illinois
184: R6 P7 C Jarrett Patterson - Notre Dame
187: R6 P10 CB Jakorian Bennett - Maryland
192: R6 P15 LB Ivan Pace Jr. - Cincinnati
210: R6 P33 DL Moro Ojomo - Texas
224: R7 P7 OT B.J. Wilson - Quincy

Mingo in the Fourth after his workouts no way he has Second Round ability and might slip to the Third no further. Mingo is a poor man's A. J. Brown nuff said.

Yeh I'm afraid Mingo will be taken somewhere between picks 76-107... Dam the Chargers for costing us #97.

IF BB Reaches for Mingo in the Second I am cool with it. Mingo is Big and Fast and plays all over the Field.

Here's a new (to me anyway) sim from ESPN Anal-ytics with trades... Don't know if this list matches their Scouts Inc list from McShay as I didn't subscribe to their Insider account this year... Two things right off the bat: their list is relatively small (< 350), especially for some position groups; and you have to initiate all the trades because they don't make offers.

Didn't do really well on my first try, but I'll give it another go later today:

My input on the draft, first is a trade down from 14 to 24/56 with Jags. Using NFLdraftscout.com ratings....
#24 TE Darnell Washington--mismatch
A player drops, we trade 46+192 for #44
#44 RB Gibbs, best pass catching back
A player that everyone has going higher in this mock we trade up again #56/187 for 51
#51 Zay Flowers, BC speedy
Another player slips...
#76 Sewell ILB OR
Backup CB,S, T in the later rounds and the highest rated Punter of course in the lower rounds. 4 of the top 76 with 3 being offensive skill positions.

damn.. nailed a nice mock tonight on Fanspeak

This would be a ridiculous draft... although there is no way Campbell falls to round 3. This was with the Buffalo Fambase big board, they have Trice rated much higher than most others.. they had the CBs rated well, all the familiar names were plucked dry by round 3-4

also steelers offered too much in trade compensation, seems like they offer this every once in awhile

Yeah I kinda doubt they would agree to that trade without at least our 117 going their way.

  • Might be my last one on PFN, as their board was updated at noontime... I felt too good about the first 4 picks that I didn't make any trades until 117, so no help for next year's draft:

  • 14. Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR Ohio State

  • 46. Darnell Washington TE Georgia

  • 76. Matthew Bergeron OT Syracuse

  • 107. Cory Trice Jr. CB Purdue

  • 135. Ricky Stromberg OC Arkansas

  • 138. DeMarvion Overshown LB Texas

  • 160. Cameron Mitchell CB Northwestern

  • 183. YaYa Diaby EDGE Louisville

  • 194. Elijah Higgins WR Stanford

  • 204. Chamarri Conner CB Virginia Tech

  • 210. Evan Hull RB Northwestern

  • 220. Jerrod Clark DT Coastal Carolina

  • 221. Earl Bostick Jr. OT Kansas

  • 2024 NE 7th (2024 LV 6th traded)

Cory Trice has been skyrocketing up draft boards these last few days

A week ago, you could get him in round 6, now he's going as early as round 2-3 consistently

I'm guessing we might trade down slightly in the first and then trade our 2nd rounder next year (and then trade one or two of our 4th rounders to move up) so we can land about 5 players in the first 3 rounds that will make a lot of folks here happy.
1st pick around 20 (Darnell Wright)
2nd pick around 36 (Deonte Banks)
3rd pick around 50 (Luke Musgrave)
4th pick around 65 (Derick Hall)
5th pick around 70 (Jonathan Mingo)

I think one reason why he started the draft process fairly low is that he only played a couple of games in 2021and 6 in 2020, so there wasn't as much tape on him... And one of the reasons why he's rising now is that - unlike others who either refused to run them or just plain Sucked at them - he absolutely Killed his shuttle & cone times; and that's a huge factor in determining a CB's change of direction ability, especially a big dude like him, or whether he's just a fast down-field runner like Darius Rush, e.g...

Please BB pick Van Ness, Tyree, Nolan, Broderick, Wright, Njigba, Weatherspoon or Gonzalez with the first pick.

Here's my best effort of about 2 or 3 from ESPN Anal-ytics, once I became used to all the CBs being taken so quickly:

Both LTs were still available at 14, so I took a chance that one of them would still be there at 17...

Coach cap are you renting space in my head?? Excellent Mock with one caveat I want Charlies Jones a lot earlier I think he makes a year one Impact Edelman/Welker type player... Love the Michael Wilson pick.
