there was some interest to open this thread
ill post some thoughts later

for starters here's a nice Miguel rundown comparing 2021-2022

two high end starters lost
long time core vets in decline gone
substantial influx (10) of promising rookies added

MLB's are still pretty bad and will be an issue, especially if you're starters are Bentley and Tavai. As much as I didn't care for Wilson or McMillian, they can't possibly be worse than Tavai.

I didn't think the O-line would be playing this poorly.

I can see the potential with Parker improving the passing offense.

Secondary hasn't been tested yet.

I really hope we don't see Bentley and Tavai on the field at the same time as MLB in goaline/short yardage situations. I don't think there is much room for a traditional 3-4 alignment in today's game. I think we see very few lineups with less than 5 defensive backs, which means we will be seeing a front 6 or front 5 rather than a front 7 more often than not.

I really hope Tavai is just special teams guy.

Looking by position, comparing opening roster 2021 to opening roster 2022:

QB in: Bailey Zappe, (Brian Hoyer)
QB out: Jarrett Studham

RB in: Pierre Strong, Ty Montgomery
RB out: James White, Brandon Bolden, JJ Taylor, Jakob Johnson

WR in: Davante Parker, Tyquan Thornton
WR out: N'Keal Harry, Gunner Olszewski

TE out: Devin Asiasi

OT out: Yasir Durant, Korey Cunningham
OG in: Cole Strange, Chasen Hineys
OG out: Shaquille Mason, Ted Karras

DL in: Sam Roberts, (Daniel Ekuale)
DL out: Henry Anderson
Edge in: Anfernee Jennings
Edge out: Chase Winovich, Ronnie Perkins

LB in: Mack Wilson, Raekwon McMillan, DaMarcus Mitchell
LB out: Donta' Hightower, Kyle Van Noy

CB in: Marcus Jones, Jack Jones
CB out: (Stephon Gilmore), JC Jackson, Joejuan Williams, Justin Bethel
S in: Jabrill Peppers, Joshuah Bledsoe, Brendan Schooler
S out: Brandon King

K (Quinn Nordin/Nick Folk)

That should be directionally correct, maybe not perfect.
Again, comparing opening roster to opening roster. It shows Ekuale, who is suspended on opening day, and Gilmore, who was on PUP and Hoyer, who was technically released on the 2021 opening roster but quickly returned. The 2021 opening roster had Quinn Nordin at kicker, who was quickly replaced by Folk.

I see a lot of slow or old guys in the gone group.

Still miss Mason.

Still miss Mason.

I think Onwenu can closely-enough replicate Mason's production, and at a fraction of the cost too... RG's the easiest position on the OL to fill; that's why the decision to pay Mason all that money in the first place never really made a lot of sense to me...
