2015 Draft Prospect Thread

I have him behind Shawn Oakman, Bud Dupree and Dante Fowler, but I think he's worth a late 1st. He's capable of playing in base or sub, capable of playing DE or OLB. He's fundamentally sound, able to set the edge, able to drop into zone coverage. And he's always around the football. Just a very, very good player. I could see him being a much more athletic Ninkovich, and a 10 year starter.

I view Oakman as a pure pass-rusher, the top DE, he'll be gone by #32, Dupree is more of an OLB I feel, and Calhoun simply possesses more talent than Fowler, Calhoun may be the most complete player of the 4

I know our need for TE is minor now however this TE class is shaping up very nicely potenitally, huge fans of Big10 Juniors James and Kroft, Funchess (who I see as a TE in the NFL), and Tonga from Utah as a UDFA, think he's very underrated

Manx has mentioned Maxx Williams from Minnesota as well, though he's a red shirt sophomore and probably won't come out. And Clive Walford from Miami has been playing well.

I would prefer the Pats not to go TE until the 4th round or later, but I wouldn't mind one at all. James is very intriguing, and I like Walford a lot. Haven't watched enough of Williams, but Manx seldom misses.

Calhoun isn't a lock to come out this year, but he's a bit of a "sleeper" in the 1st round right now. He doesn't have the freakish athleticism of Shawn Oakman or the athleticism of Shane Ray or Bud Dupree, or quite the versatility of Dante Fowler or Dupree, but he's a fundamentally sound player who has the discipline and versatility to thrive in a BB defense. He would be a reasonable consolation prize in the late 1st round if the other 3 guys mentioned are long gone.

I think Calhoun is versatile enough to play in a hybrid scheme, but not as versatile as Fowler or Dupree, so I agree with you on preferring them. I wouldn't be at all upset with Calhoun as a consolation prize, however.

Note: I like ray Shane Ray much much more than Calhoun but I don't think Ray is a BB type player.

Ray is a more explosive pass rusher, but I agree, I'm not sure he does enough to be a BB type player.

Funchess would me my top TE, Koyack from ND is also a strong candidate to go Day 2, as are 3 Big10 TEs in Kroft (RU), Heuerman (Ohio State), and James (PSU), Uzomah from Auburn may go early Day 3, he plays real old school, Blake Bell and Jake McHee are also of interest as is Westlee Tonga from Utah, probably goes undrafted but I think he can be a very productive player, reminds me of AH slightly in some ways, Clay Burton from UofF is also intriguing, and I'm a HUGE fan of injured Duke TE Braxton Deaver, really hope this kid gets a shot, major major fan, I like this TE class's potential

In '13 the only TE I liked was Eifert and Reed to an extent, and in '14 the only TEs I liked was Amaro and Arthur Lynch, and ASJ to a extent, but for '15 I full heatedly love Funchess, Koyack, Kroft, James, Tonga, and especially Deaver

Keep Maxx Williams in mind - If he declares he'll likely be no2 TE on most boards (if you consider Funchess to be a TE).

Jesse James is having an awful year. He hasn't blocked a soul. Which is on him. The new staff at PSU is struggling to get the passing game going. Not James's fault. I'd be shocked if he turns pro based on this year's film.

I haven't really seen him but I was reading today that he's good for a couple of drops a game too. Would you agree or disagree with that observation?

I don't know about that many drops. But, he's had too many. Hackenberg will try to throw a 10 yard pass 100 miles per hour. Technically, they're drops. But, a lot of it is on Hackenberg. Who has looked shockingly poor at times. He's lost confidence in his OL. Don't blame him. They've been bad. And, his mechanics have slipped without O'Brien coaching him. Won't be shocked if he transfers.

Stefon Diggs is out for the season with a lacerated kidney. As a junior, I wonder if that means he stays at Maryland. Could be interesting value if he does declare.

His speed should keep him relatively high, always elevates guys like Tavon or DAT or that other speedster I believe is on PIT

Just grated his 6th year of eligibility at Duke, hopefully his last season, next season, will be a blast, definitely someone to watch for '16 Draft, he'll be 24 on his draft day

This is interesting from @jmpasq on twitter (the guy that does most of the Draft Breakdown videos) with regards to Louisville safety Gerod Holliman who is getting draft buzz based upon his 13 interceptions this year:

A poster on the Giant Message board Blue Santa pointed out that Holliman only tackles with his right shoulder in this game

He hypothesized there could be lingering effects from his torn labrum in 2012. Something to watch in other game tapes

he pointed out the 1 time he does hit with his left shoulder he was on the ground writhing in pain

That would probably have him removed off boards completely. Something I'm going to keep an eye on

Ineresting. I was going to post some comments on Holliman - along with Maxx Willaims, he's the RS sophomore getting the most hype at the moment as a possible early entry (not counting Jameis Winston, who is a given to be coming out).

It's funny because within five minutes of posting what I did, I saw a piece by Bucky Brooks wondering whether he's the next Ed Reid. I didn't share because there wasn't that much backing the theory up apart from the number of interceptions.

It's a hell of a dilemma though isn't it. The guy might be an elite centrefield safety like Earl Thomas but can't tackle a lick, presumably because of a long-term injury issue. Do you keep him on your board or not?
