The defense that played great for the last half of the season, stopped JAX and gave up almost nothing against Denver will all be back (presuming the signing of Hawkins). In addition, we will have improvements from the IR.

DL (7) Seymour,Wilfork,Warren,Green,Hill,Wright,Thomas/Klecko
LB (9) McGinist,Vrabel,Bruschi,Colvin,Brown,Beisel,Claridge,Izzo,Banta-Cain
CB (5) Samuel,Hobbs,Gay,Starks,Poole/(Poteat)
S (4) Wilson,Sanders,Scott,Harrison/(Hawkins)

While there are potential upgrades, this is a complete roster, and a better one than we had for the end of the season. I think that we should sign Hawkins ASAP and then start to focus on the offense.

I have presumed that the ERFA's have been re-signed since they have no choices.

I did not include the re-signing of Poteat, Stone, Chatham and Davis. Poteat seems the most likely signing, especially if Poole is to be cut before paying him his roster bonus.

This is a top defense.

Man, you really think Poole will be back? I can see Starks, but Poole would surprise me. That image of his almost empty locker 3 or 4 days after being placed on IR keeps popping into my head.

I didn't really mean this roster as a prediction, but your point with regard to Poole is well-taken. I would like to see himn cut before his roster bonus is due.

I edited the roster to add Poteat.

I don't have a problem with Poole coming back.

We're talking about the Poole of three years ago after two season-ending injuries.??????????

I would certainly hope the Pats upgrade Stone's position. Just from guys coming back from IR alone.

Stone can't cover.

Maybe he is long gone, that isn't my call to make. I watched the tape of the Oakland game, he was our best CB then and nearly made the play one-on-one with Moss - Moss had to make a great play to make that catch. Mangini, Pees, and BB huddled right after that play and changed the LB's coverage - because Geno got sucked up on the uncovered TE leaving Poole alone.

We have had veterans who went through injury spells, so I see no reason to hold that against him. What it boils down to is what I saw on the field before he got hurt, if he comes back he and Hobbs are our two best, with Asante at nickelback. I have no problem with that line-up.

If Poole and Starks see the field as a Pat next year, your setting your self up for disaster.

This is the second time in two years Poole has pissed of coaching staff with reluctants to play through playible injuries. To bad too, the guy has or had talent.

Need to get better...

Also I don't want to Bisel or Chad Brown again.

We shall see. If he makes past March 1st, Poole will compete for a starting spot. BTW, I think Samuel is good enough to start.
