Sorry, but this is ridiculous. Obviously the Clippers owner and front office circumvented the cap, but why should Clippers fans be punished like this? This is permanent suspension/major fine/forced to sell the team territory. But why would I follow the Clippers knowing they have no hope in the near term?
Seriously, what if Goodell had docked 5 first round picks for Spygate? I would have tapped out of the NFL at that point.
The problem here is the same one I have with all of these investigations.
They are targeting one team and ignoring that many other teams are likely guilty of the same thing to some extent if not fully.
This is why I think Spygate was so stupid. I won’t even get into Deflategate since the scandal was the league itself and not the Patriots. But on the subject of Spygate, during the league’s investigation, many coaches, scouts, public television personalities, all confirmed that they do the same thing. So if you’re going to investigate, then you should take it as far as it goes and include every single accusation against every team that comes up. Otherwise, it is the definition of bias.
During a criminal investigation, if it is revealed that others are also committing crimes, it is the responsibility of the investigating agency to follow that lead as well.
And in competitive professional sports, if one is going to open this can of worms, then at the very least, there should be inquiries into every team and following any rumors or whispers that have surfaced.
But there isn’t.
It’s the same thing that the NCAA does like when they punish a school like USC, despite the public, knowing that virtually every school is guilty of these types of infractions.
And it often turns into the investigators trying to win a case rather than trying to actually objectively gather evidence. So it is basically like a police investigation, but in this case, the investigators are not bound to any later criticisms or thrown out evidence due to their tactics, nor do they need to explain their conclusions or present them to an objective party like a jury.
And finally, if all this is in fact, true, why is it that the greedy little bastard himself, Kawhi Leonard, gets a drop in the bucket fine, and no suspension? The fans already hate how greedy these guys are, which is probably the biggest perception problem or so than a competitive advantage, and all this does is **** over a fan base while the player travels into the sunset on his yacht. Not surprising though because the NBA under Adam Silver is probably the worst run major sports league I’ve ever seen.
