Overpaying for declining players - first you surrender the picks; then you pay the guy - is foolish. Draft and develop is the way to go, not snatching at every shiny object that flashes into view. This is so whether you are talking about Myles Garret or - even worse, given the physical requirements of his position and his known knee problems - AJ Brown.
I hope some other team proves even dumber than those Pats bigwigs who want the AJ thing comes along and outbids us, or - better - that those bigwigs (and fans) come to their senses and we back out.
If we insist in dabbling in this nonsense, I would establish a firm ceiling for what I would give for Brown and absolutely decline to exceed that limit. Under no circumstances would I go higher than a second-rounder, and even that I think only gets us from downright irresponsible to merely garden-variety dumb.
