Boutte available for trade?

If the coaching staff thought Boutte could could bring some dynamism in the Z or Slot, they might have forgone acquiring Doubs.

Once Doubs was signed, Boutte was nothing more than insurance in case the AJB trade fell through. Though the Doubs signing strengthed our position from a need standpoint, Roseman likely new that the Pats were not going to walk away and bank on a season of opportunity with a Doubs Boutte pairing.

That means without Booty the #3 WR is Mack Hollins and the #6 becomes the Chism trail.

That particular group of 4 isn't horrible, but it ain't exactly a wealth of depth either.

Hollins/Williams/Douglas is a fine group for depth.

Generally you don't carry 6 WRs, especially when the #6 isn't a special teams player.

There are other positions thin like TE, corner, edge rusher, but this is a solid mix of roster receivers before we even consider the possibility of camp surprises.

I have said that many times and always get laughed at Smh.
And I will laugh at you again.

Not sure Doubs is any better than Boutte tbo.
Pretty big risk.

I am concerned that AJB's knee might not hold up, but I love the Doubs signing. Possession guy, great route runner, taller than Boutte (6'2" versus 5'11"), and faster than Boutte - Next Gen Stats says Doubs top 2025 speed of over 21 mph would have led the 2025 Patriots - Boutte is about 18.5 mph for his 2025 top speed.

Did you hear Drake's comment today that he grew up throwing to his brothers who are 6'6" and 6'7" tall and loves to throw to tall WRs? Boutte at 5'11" is not tall by NFL standards.

I think Doubs will be Myers but better, and Drake will love him.

Then he should love Kyle Dixon (also 6'2"+).

That said, remember that for everything he's said, he's probably not going to be chucking it 30 yards downfield 20 times a game. There's still going to be plenty of passes for Maye's Three Sons/Montgomery/Chism/etc.

Oh sure if I was Pop Douglas I would be more worried. Regarding Boutte I'm sure Maye's brothers can't routinely make those one handed catches like Boutte. Also Maye would hate throwing to a WR like Smith-NJigba who's not 6'6" or 6'7".

I think they did overpay for Doubs a little, but it was AJ Brown insurance.

For the same price Doubs is better.

Boutte probably wants 2 for 25-30.

I'd rather have Doubs at those numbers.
We agree there: that said I think we're discounting Boutte's torrid start up until the Atlanta game last year when he got injured. A healthy Boutte would have eclipsed any season of Romeo Doubs thus far: which is not a high bar. Also he would have been close to Alec Pierce statistically who resigned with the Colts.

But would a healthy Boutte eclipse what Doubs did with Jordan Love and their WR room?

Boutte is a fine NFL receiver. But he doesn't get open enough.

Wait really????

I don't think he's a finished product: I think he's still improving.

One could argue they're both pretty much the same in that regards. Doubs is two years older and has played one more season.

The stat that jumps out for me: Doubs has 50% more targets the past two years with about the SAME number of snap counts. Boutte's best season was 68 targets, while Doubs has averaged 80 over his entire career.

Boutte isn't that fast and has difficulty getting open. This is where Doubs separates as a receiver over Boutte.
