Base Case - First 2026 53-Man Roster

hmm
deepest DT depth in the NFL?

I disagree. We don't have a good NFL starter at NT, never mind one of the best backups in the NFL. Gregory needs to gain some weight to be even thought of as a NT. The backups are all around 300, way too light.

Starters: Williams, Barmore, Durden
Backups: Gregory, Farmer, Taylor

or Williams, Gregory, Barmore
Durden, Farmer, Taylor/Blay, Farmer
Starters and Barmore and Williams.
They play alongside 2 edges 2 lbs and 5 dbs.
The scheme you are referring to become obsolete 15 years ago

Here are some Free Agents i wouldn't mind the Pats signing... assuming Brown for Boutte + 1st happens.

DJ Reader - DT = replace the Tonga role. This one i don't think we need, but it is an option.
Shaq Thompson - LB = He is a good coverage LB and gives some decent depth.
Jimmie Ward - DB = He can give much needed depth to the DB field. He can play outside, inside, safety. Everything. Pony up the dough and pay the old man. He will ride the bench mostly and take a reduced role at his age for one last ride.

M. Williams and baremore are unique players
They can play good run defense and offer some pass rush. If one of them go down im not convinced this great depth can hold. The NT position is not obsolete. Tonga fulfilled this role just last year. I believe its the biggest hole on the roster right now. The patriots need a 320 pound plus run stuffing specialist before the season starts. It frees up milton and christian too so its a double good. The pats spent the whole offseason getting tougher while neglecting the #1 tough position. If one of the top 2 go down the run D will start leaking and that creates more problems.

Whether we like it or not, the NT on the team is Gregory. He does need to gain a few pounds, and, yeah, I usually want one more fattie than do the coaches.
==========
Vrabel could sign someone or trade for someone, but I think that would take place in the last week before the final cuts. We are unlikely to find anyone to claim at 31 after the cuts like we did last year. We likely would need to give up a 6th, which is fine.

Yea. Maybe farmer can put on some weight too. Ill let it go haha overall its been a solid offseason. Patriots seem set at the most important positions. Qb, tackle, edge, corner
And WR too after brown

also all set at RB and TE and FB
I'm looking forward to a running game with Hill and Gilliam included. Hopefully, the Tucker, Wilson move will provide the offensive line support with a more consistent effort.

I'm going on record that I think Larison would be a better RB3 than Miller.
Sure, Miller has the Alabama cache, but Larison's tape looks more explosive and versatile. He's more of a swiss-army type.
Miller is not that elusive or fast. He's a bit of a bruiser, but without any top-flight asset to be an NFL bruiser.
They might start with 4RB's on the roster. But, I bet Miller as a 7th rounder is a surefire PS candidate, and we don't need to worry about losing him.

As a UDFA who has been IR, we don't have to worry about losing Larison by putting him on the Practice Squad.

If both were coming out as rookie UDFA's, Larison would be more likely win the battle.

I have no issues. Hopefully, there will be an acquisition or two or three.

I agree on 48. I have these differences

OFFENSE
Morton instead of 6th WR
Miller instead of Larison
Dippre instead of Arkin

DEFENSE
Gregory instead of Holmes
Obiazor instead of Brown

Taking into account Zero additions - though we sure do need a few - and Full Go status for everybody else in the building:

QB (2) Drake Maye, Tommy DeVito; Morton waived & signed to PS.

RB (4) Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, Reggie Gilliam, Lan Larison; neither Miller nor Montgomery distinguish themselves, and Jennings just plain Sucks.

TE (3) Hunter Henry, Eli Raridon, and CJ Dippre who replaces Hill.

WR (6) A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte, Demario Douglas, Kyle Williams; Douglas & Williams do enough to fend off Chizm. The rest are Garbage.

C (2) Jared Wilson, Ben Brown
G (4) Alijah Vera-Tucker, Mike Onwenu, Caleb Lomu, Caedan Wallace
T (4) Will Campbell, Morgan Moses, Dametrious Crownover, and Marcus Bryant though I can see Rupcich unseating him...
The rest are Garbage.

DE (3) Dre’Mont Jones, Elijah Ponder, and Gabe Jacass IF he's healthy.

DT (5) Christian Barmore, Milton Williams, Cory Durden, Joshua Farmer, Eric Gregory; they need Gregory as their only NT so there's no room for Taylor.

ILB (5) Robert Spillane, Christian Elliss, K.J. Britt, Chad Muma, Namdi Obiazor; Britt makes it on experience only because I don't really like him otherwise. Obi makes it as the only Patriots Drafted LB in the building.

OLB (2) Harold Landry IF healthy, Bradyn Swinson. That makes 5 DE/OLBs, including 2 with serious health issues. Not good.

CB (5) Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis, Marcus Jones, Karon Prunty, and Kindle Vildor who Sucks, but everybody else is Much worse.

SS (2) Craig Woodson, and Mike Brown who Sucks, but it was either he or Dell Heavy Pettus and there was No room for both.
FS (2) Kevin Byard, and Charlie('s lost in the) Woods who Sucks but he's a Pet so he's untouchable.

ST (4) Brenden Schooler, Bryce Baringer, Andy Borregales, Julian Ashby

a couple of nitpicks/observations
--------------------
1) You chose Larison to be the first patriot UDFA this century (ever?) to make the 53-man roster after spending his rookie year on IR.
2) You think that Rupcich has a chance to make the roster as an OT. How many NFL reps has he taken as an OT?
3) You choose Charles Woods although you change his position to safety. He was our #4 CB in 2025. I guess that labels don't matter.

1) I was not aware of this tidbit; but I am more anti-Jennings/Miller/Montgomery than I am pro-Larison.

2) I know he's not a Tackle, it's just the way the numbers worked... Notice that I also have Lomu as a Guard in the first case but he would then move to Tackle if Rupcich is the 10th OLman... Ends-up being the same people anyway.

3) Safety, Cornerback... Charlie Sucks either way, but as I mentioned he's a Pet of theirs when Stretch was with the Lams so he's staying... But he & Prunty alone as the backup CBs?!? Kindle has the most experience by far of the remaining CBs so he too needs to stay, for now...

Much Better than people give him credit for.
Yeah, he missed a block last year, but we saw ONE, not 5 or 6.
He's not going to be a Fantasy Guy, just a tool that gets **** done.

Thank you for the clarification. I missed that you cut Brown.

I think I know how much you dislike Brown, but I suspect that he will make the 53. The question for me is whether there is an upgrade for Wallace. In your categorization, I would expect Brown to beat out Wallace. But I would prefer that we sign a veteran backup OG/OC to replace Wallace. In your construction, the addition would replace Brown. If staff really thinks that Wallace is a future contributor at guard, this would be the best move as a transition into the future.

Ben Brown's on my 53, right next to Wilson at Center.
