Frankly I don't think this team is entirely done even after AJ Brown. I could see them trying to find a cheap depth LB option. And yes.. this has 2 draft picks going to the PS. Hutchings/Obiazor. Obiazor could potential get a spot though if he shows he is one of the top 2/3 STs options on this team.

Also a depth safety option wouldn't be out of line either.
Did you mean Muma instead of Mapu?

Don’t see Miller making this team.
The LB situation is bad, really interesting to see what will they do. Weird they didn’t retain Gibbens.
Not weird to me. Vrabel likes Britt and Muma more than Gibbens.

Douglas is traded or cut
Muma will have a similar impact as Gibbens did
Miller will make the 53
Not sold on Britt either
It's only April
Douglas is one of our 5 best WRs. No reason to get rid of him.

If we kept 6...sure...

Is the thinking here that the Eagles will no longer demand Boutte or another WR in return for the trade?

I can see Morton getting the Foxboro Flu towards the end of camp and them starting the season with 2 QBs

That may give room for Douglas if indeed the Eagles drafting of Lemon means they won't demand Boutte or Williams in return.

We'll let the camp determine certain things but I wonder who we project as punt and kick returners this season. We put a lot on Henderson's shoulders last year period and might do well to let him focus on just being a 1a RB.

So was Bourne last year. If we assume they get Brown and keep Boutte, that’s two guys ahead. Doubs obviously will be as well. You may disagree but playing time indicated Hollins is better too. Kyle Williams is making the team as well. So now that’s 5 guys.

Bourne was obviously better than Chism last year but when you down to the bottom of the roster decisions like that teams routinely keep upside plays over the more stable vet in the last year of this deal. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Douglas get cut in a similar play this year.

My 5 is Brown, Doubs, Boutte, Williams, Douglas.
I think Hollins is one and done here like he has been almost everywhere.

Is Williams really a shoe-in? Perhaps, but he damn well better show a leap in improvement over last season if it comes down to keeping him or Hollins. I'd hate to see Hollins go. If Williams can't mentally get in sync with Maye and the offense then whatever skills he has are irrelevant.

I think Hollins is too valuable to our planned smash mouth running offense to be gone.

And Josh likes him.
Why in the world would you think we plan a smash mouth offense? We will revolve around throwing the ball.
Hollins is 33 and I don’t see how he would get other field ahead Brown, Boutte, Dobbs and Williams.

Yes he’s a shoe in.

I have been wondering if the Pats keep 2 FBs on the roster as well.

The reason is that it appears that FB will be a big part of what NE does on O. Rushing and in pass protection since Campbell is staying at LT. NE made it a point to go out and get a FB rather than stand pat with Westover or Larison. If Gilliam were lost in a game that is important to win (any AFC game, but more specifically Buffalo, KC, Denver) the Pats would be out those selections of plays that theyve based the O on.

Basing this on the current roster, so no trades (A.J. Brown, Pop Douglas, etc.) Rupcich/Caedan Wallace is just a placeholder for a 5th IOL at the moment. Brock Lampe was originally on the roster before I saw the shortage of guards. Swinson is another end the roster player I had on at first.

Very early work in progress.

Are you serious? Have you missed the many posts on here about expectations of a smashmouth running offense? Or are you just looking for a chance to argue?

We sign a top FB, a strong upgrade at G, and a solid blocking TE in FA, then draft another good blocking TE. Connect the dots.

Which is why carrying 2 FBs on the 53 is not farfetched.

Furthermore, they add pass blocking for Maye to have time.

1. AB Brown will be added.
2. Doubs is signed @ 6 - 2.
3. Boutte In his final year needs another solid season to earn a contract.
4. Hollins has carved out a role and he has size @ 6 - 4.
5. Williams isn't going anywhere soon.

Pop Gun Douglas is odd man out. NE saves 3.5 Mil cutting him.

PLAYER 54 (someone I don't want to cut)
Muma
I wouldn't cut Muma. KJ Britt got UDFA money guaranteed, he is in no way a roster lock. I don't even think Namdi Obiazor in the 6th round is assured a roster spot, though I do think he has good potential.

They need stability behind the two starters Spillane and Ellis. The competition level for camp has improved, which is what you want.... we'll see.

No chance.

They could slide anyone but Gilliam to the practice squad and nobody is coming to steal them. Many teams don't even use a FB. Larison is a RB, a smallish one.. not a FB.

Westover wasn't good last season, Lampe can't stay healthy and isn't much of an athlete, this massive TE/FB UDFA is a also poor athlete... there's nothing here.
