Russini & Vrabel Nothing to see here?

I think the story has faded into "nothing to see here" territory, or is heading there rapidly.

She's resigned so has paid a price, pretty much what many wanted to see.

Their spouses may file for divorce, but that too is just what people want to see, and expect to see.

Clearly if there are divorces in court, a day of coverage of the grieved spouse, a rehash of the details, but pretty much nothing to see.

Typically cameras aren't allowed so you can expect at best some artist renderings etc.

It probably won't get to court anyhow.

I presume Vrabel will let the press ask the question once, then he'll say what he already said, and ask for football questions.

If they press further, the reporter who pushes will be on Vrabel's **** list for the rest of time, so chances are no one will press him hard. The juice ain't worth the squeeze, so to speak.

We even see the national reporters tend to follow the local reporter's lead, because if they press too hard the entire press conference goes the wrong way and no one gets anything to write about.

Almost like this whole situation wasn't worth the time and the effort expended.

Got that other lady fired, too.

Well done, everyone.

Felger is all over this every single day and every single night, on both shows.

Well played, Crissy!

FOX will pick you up in an instant, you're definitely their type!

Not to mention you've already got street cred on their side of the culture wars.

Quite a promotion from the sports beat at USA Today to FOX News!

Messages open, email open, all ready for the offer sheet!

Conservative women Rock!

I don't really know what you guys expected. A reporter was caught in an unethical scandal and got fired. Nothing more was ever going to happen.

This isn't just a story in New England. I travel out of state weekly for work (PA, MD, FL, VA, NY. GA). Ever since this happened I've had it brought up to me because I'm a Pats fan by pretty much everyone. It's just the sports story of the off season. Even mainstream gossip rags are covering this.

It's sex, and it sells.

That's because he's a low life piece of **** who will never have the balls to say anything to Vrabel's face.

ESPN article dropped this afternoon.
Whole lot of nothing in this, no real new info. Not sure why they wrote it.

The only good nugget I saw (although it’s not shocking, but it’s the Pats, so you never know) is that a spokesman for the NFL explicitly stated that they are NOT reviewing this situation in regards to Vrabel and the league conduct policy etc. So anyone worried about a punishment for him can rest easy there.

There is a lot of new stuff in there, most important of which is clarifying the whole timeline. It is especially noteworthy that the Post offered to drop the whole thing if Vrabel or Russini could prove they were at the Ambiente with friends. Obviously no such proof was forthcoming.

That is very damning to me. If I knew that it was a big nothing burger and had evidence to prove it..I would gladly bring it all to the forefront and end this mess very, very quickly. The fact nobody has just verifies that there is more here. Also the report of an eyewitness that says they saw them together alone.

The fact that it says they backed her, then once new information came to light they moved on. They don't specify what that might have been but it was a needle mover.

I also feel pretty bad for whoever the Pats draft next weekend. The first questions to Vrabel will be about this and not about the players. Thats a mess he has created for himself and the organization.

Yup. Like I said, the easiest way to get this squared away with is to have friends corroborate the story. Any reasonable person in this situation is calling in whatever favors they have to get their friends to go public and say they were all together. This story would have been killed before publication. Hell even with a publication it would have died down if even 1 or 2 people said "yeah we were with them, it was just friends hanging out".

They basically screwed themselves coming up with this cover for the whole thing and not being able to produce a single friend that can say "yeah they are telling the truth".

The post and the Athletic gave Russini multiple outs to provide proof to kill the story and save her job. Don't know how it's reasonable to presume she just let her entire career tank without asking a single friend to back her up.

That is Felger…. it should go super quiet post draft though….Vrabes has to meet the press one more time before Mini-Camp/TC…. Bet we aren’t talking about this in June…

Allegedly Russini had a "crisis communicator." Russini allegedly coordinated with Vrabel. They were allegedly given 48 hours to provide some evidence to back up their statements that they were each on a trip with friends. The NY Post might have pulled the story if they provided evidence. They didn't provide evidence that it was a trip with friends so the NY Post ran the story.

I am guessing that they weren’t at the actual hotel with friends but maintain that it was not a romantic engagement. However, you can’t really prove a negative so it is sort of futile. How would they prove they did NOT do something, short of filming themselves during their entire stay, or something? Which obviously no one would do?

The fact that it says they backed her, then once new information came to light they moved on. They don't specify what that might have been but it was a needle mover.

This keeps getting mis-understood.

1. They provided a statement based on Russini’s explanation prior to publishing
2. Once the story was published and they learned more, combined with internal pressure, they started looking into the matter more deeply
3. Russini resigned

It seems like people keep twisting this into a sequence of events where her employer “backed her at first, then found a dark secret and fired her” when in reality they really just read what we all read, started to look into it because of public outcry, and she eventually quit. This whole thing is way over-dramatized in many ways.
