The Update: New England Patriots 2017 Preview - Setting The Edge

If you don't have time for the entire article, at least watch the breakdown of the defensive line play. Really excellent information from some insightful analysts.

Was just reading it myself. Great find. Amazing article.
Even more amazing its from a series on all 32 teams.

Barring a string of significant injuries . (or BBs extensive autumn sale) .
this will be the team to remember.

If I had 3 wishes:
1. Enlarge team roster (50 active, 60 signed + 10 PS)
2. Short distance to Foxboro
3. The NeverEnding Season

Yup. Great article. I had already read this by following Justis' Twitter acct. Lots of good info and opinion those guys have.

The multi-score win differential shows just how dominating the Patriots are:

whats the timeframe for that? I don't think we've had more than 5 big losses in all of BBs tenure

Yeah, I can't recall many blowouts, but I guess we're spoiled. This is the surrounding text:

When you juxtapose Belichick’s Patriots to the rest of the league over that time period, you get a real feel for how absolutely dominant the team has been. Since 2006, the Patriots have won 92 multi-score games and lost just 14 multi-score games in the regular season. That’s 18 more multi-score wins and 11 fewer multi-score losses than any other team since 2006. Multi-score wins are “Big Wins”, and multi-score losses are “Big Losses”, in the chart below:

The Patriots have won 78 more multi-score games than they’ve lost since 2006. Only two other teams league-wide (Packers +46, Steelers +42) have even half as many as the Patriots over that period of time.

You might be right. Maybe a few more..

Off the top of my head....outright disasters

2006 Mia 21-0
01 MIA was awful too. Brady was still green. Too much South Beach babes
Brady's 1st game in DET was a train wreak but no need to count that.
03 BUF 31-0
There was a bad home loss vs SD. I forget the year. Brady barked at Shottsie for talking about the NEP.
That stupid MIA Wildcat game was brutal
The Pitt @ home game w Cassell when Slater fumbled. Awful. They were in it at 1/2 time though
Ravens Wild Card Game
2010 CLE
2014 KC
There was a GB @ home game when Pass fumbled and everyone stood around and watched it roll. They wore blue uniforms.
There was a MNF home game vs Colts. 05? 06?

When an analyst that is paying this much attention says, "may be one of the best teams of all time" with regards to the 2017 Pats, I am less concerned about my own homerist tendencies.

They use the term "multiscore" wins and losses wince 2006. Technically, Multiscore could mean 9 points or more (greater than a TD + 2pt conversion)

Good read, though I wish the statistics had included QB hits per pass attempt, from
both sides of the LOS. To the naked eye, it seems that the OL allows too many of them,
while the defense doesn't get enough of them.
I'm also not in complete agreement that "there's no room for concern at LB as an
overall unit." It's ability to cover RBs & TEs, for example, especially outside the hash
marks, is pretty much nonexistant.

I enjoyed the work that went into this page. Excellent preview.

That being said, I always try to remember that the REAL season can turn out to be 180 degrees contraposed to all the preseason prognostications. Key injuries are always the wild card.

@LB
Its a preview. And I think Pats were/are addressing the issue.
KVN shows strides in that direction. Rivers is a former LB & TE! Has all the attributes to do the job (not a lot of experience though but that shouldn't be an issue). Langi was good at it in 2015 (then moved to edge in 2016). JJ is another option developing. Bates certainly has quickness and enough lbs (1.57--10y/6.75--3c/4.25--ss). So there are some options..
Plus as you know they were still bringing lighter LBs for workouts..
