Here is an article I thought worth reading, whether you agree with his sentiments or not.

Maybe it is relevant to Hightower.

It really is possible that many or most pro football players don't love football like we fans do.

Jordan Cameron: A lot of us in the NFL don’t love football

"
Cameron said that contrary to what some fans might think, he and his fellow NFL players didn’t necessarily love the game.

“I don’t think a lot of these guys love football, to be honest,” Cameron told ESPN. “A lot of them don’t. You play for other reasons, and every guy has their own reason. They know why, and as long as your why is really important, you keep playing without really loving football. Because really, who loves to get hit in 10-degree weather by a 280-pound person? Really, no one likes that. ‘Do you love football?’ I couldn’t stand when people asked me that.”

Cameron said the players who are truly passionate about the game are a minority."

Go to the Jets, get fat/lazy, take Woody's $$$ and never sniff the playoffs. Go to the Squealers, win a couple playoff games, post videos during coaches post game speech, get smoked by the Pats in the AFCCG. Tough decision for Dant'a

I think that's a reasonable point of view. A lot of people are very good at their jobs but don't love them. Football (or any sport in particular) is something that most of these guys have been doing for a long long time. I think it is very reasonable to think they continue playing because of the skills they've built up over time and because it will provide a high quality of living for their family.

It's all about being able to do your best even if you don't love it. If you do that, who cares about anything else?

I doubt a lot of guys hate football. I bet a lot of them don't like the professional football lifestyle. I would compare this a musician who loves music but is disillusioned by the commercial aspect and the wear-and-tear of touring. The professional football lifestyle is a huge grind and a tremendous sacrifice on their bodies...it's a meat grinder. No matter how much they "love the game," the NFL's version of football is an entertainment venue, somewhat like the circus. It's brutal. Professioanl sports in general have grinding schedules, making family time difficult with the travel and commitment required. Not that many of us don't suffer from the same dilemma to make a living for our loved ones. Just my .02.

All of Pats nation right now.

I'm curious to know what makes other teams convinced he's returning to NE?

The fact that most other teams don't know exactly how to use him to his full potential in their scheme. This means they are not willing to offer him a bigger contract than what the Pats would most probably match.

The Hightower situation is a microcosm on why BB is so many levels ahead of other coaches. We are actually adjusting our scheme based on the players we have to highlight their strengths while other teams search for players that fit their rigid scheme. They are paying a premium for those players, while we are the kings of using the middle class (5m-8m range) to have versatile depth.

Proper depth and redundancies in case of injuries win seasons.

He prob hoping a team steps up and gives him a good reason to leave NE.

I personally now can't see any other reason. It's week 2, he cannot be getting offers much if any more than what the Pats are offering and he is probably pissed. Wouldn't you?

He salvation is either the Jets, or the Steelers. One team is a dumpster fire, the other not long for relevancy with Ben declining quickly.

If one has to sink to those lows versus the wagon that is here in NE, one has to question if he really wants to stay.

I think at this point he ends up in Pitt. He gives them a much better chance at winning than NY does. Plus you know Pitt will go hard after him being how desperate they are to beat NE. Severely weakens us at the position and gives them a heck of a ILB tandem with HT and Shazier.

Good. Their cap space is pretty limited though. I'd love to see them pay too much for him.

If Pitt had the means they would because he could be a good fit for them but they just spent big bucks on AB and Bell, I just don't see them investing much more in the free agency other than adding more depth to their o-line.

Yeah I thought about that too. We also all know how desperate they are to be beat us, I wouldn't rule it out, desperation makes you do crazy things.

No news is good news this morning, if he kept his app't in Pittsburgh last night..

Still believe he will be in a Pats Uniform when we open in September..

No news out of Pittsburgh this AM is good news.. unless it travels slowly.

I suspect that Hightower will be in a Pats Uniform when the Pats open in September..

No kidding. Tell me who else would pay any of these guys the vet minimum. That's a lot of bank for most people.
