From Scouting Tennessee Vols in the NFL Draft: Offensive Tackle Kyler Kerbyson :


A three-star offensive lineman with the 2011 recruiting class, Derek Dooley’s first class, Kyler Kerbyson left a very different program than the one he walked into in Knoxville.

After redshirting for one year and then riding the bench behind a very deep offensive line in 2012 and 2013, Kerbyson was thrust into a starting position with four new guys up front in 2014…and he struggled heavily as a result.


But nobody, and we mean nobody, developed more than Kerbyson did from the start of 2014 to the end of 2015. He went from an offensive lineman who looked lost and just came from being buried in the depth chart to the most consistent, reliable player on the football team.

And he did it all as a bit of an undersized tackle standing between 6’4? and 6’5?.

But Kerbyson’s natural position is a guard, which makes him a very versatile and underrated NFL Draft prospect. Having played under three different offensive coordinators and learning two completely different systems, his height combined his 315 pound frame makes him a very compelling prospect. And he could become a steal for somebody.

Draft Projections: Kerbyson is likely to be a late pick in the sixth or seventh round of the Draft, and it is just as possible that he will not even be drafted. But as a solid rock of stability for the Vols over the last two years who has developed more than anybody, he brings intangibles and an actual body of work of performing on the field to any team that takes him.

That should take precedence over his size or lack thereof for his position. Versatility, consistency, and intangibles are all traits he’ll bring to anybody who picks him up.

And he might just be the most sure thing in the draft.

How is Kerbyson's "natural position" at guard when he's played all of 1 game in his entire college career at the position? The Rest of the games were at LT or RT.

One thing of note about Kerbyson is that he's got huge hands (10 3/4").
He's got good arm strength (32 reps) and decent vertical (27").
