Broncos Safety Ward on Stopping Gronkowski - "We'll have a plan"

Ian Logue

The Broncos say they have a plan to try and slow down tight end Rob Gronkowski.

It not rocket science. After watching the bills game you just need to put two or three defenders on him and hold him. That would stop anyone. That was a tough game and we should be able to be that game plan easier next time.

Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the mouth... or in the knee.

The Bills mainly used DBs on Gronk, with a combo of both CB and S. Since Denver has used Talib on him in the past, it may be safe to say that he'll get some looks this game at times too.

When the Bills weren't using DBs on him, they used a bracketed coverage system which allowed a LB to cover him with Safety help. That was also very effective.

Either way, I'm not quite as sure as you are that things will be easier this time, especially if he remains in to block a lot again. We should be able to move him around in motion, in the slot, in-line, and also on the outside, which will hopefully allow him to get more open looks and mismatches.

The problem is that the loss of Edelman certainly makes it easier for the opposition to defend, and I'd expect a lot of double coverage. As you said, it isn't rocket science.

We all laughed when the Bills said the same thing last week, but he was held to only 2 catches for 37 yards.

Hopefully, it's not the same on Sunday.

I predict a low scoring game.

A key point is that I think our defense will be able to get some 3 and outs in their 20 or 30 yard line that can give us good field position when getting the ball back needing 20/30 yards to be in field goal range at least. I also think we will punt a lot but we have a QB that can move the ball so I don't think we will be punting with the back on the stands, so If we punt from our 40 yard line they will get the ball back in a bad spot, their offense is anemic and Brock will be under pressure, I think our defense is more likely to win this game for us than the opposite.

EXACTLY what I was thinking. They all have a plan, and just know how to pull it off, until the Gronk ***-rapes them.

Punts travel pretty far at that altitude. I wouldn't expect many short fields unless there are turnovers. It's ridiculous that the Pats haven't scored a non-offensive touchdown yet this season (thanks Harmon), but this would be a great week for one.

Pretty sure his plan will involve launching himself helmet first at Gronks knee. He's not exactly what I'd call a cerebral strategist.
That was my first thought, go for gronks knees early and often.

BB has already developed a plan of counterattack...

Yup diving low at the knees, right Mr. Ward?

If this son of a ***** takes out Gronks knee again, im taking a personal plane out to Denver, to Tanya Harding his ass...and im not joking.

Donations will be welcomed!
Yknow he'll try. He did last year...

Ward sucks in coverage. Impressed by his dirty low hit on Gronk when he played for the Browns, the Broncos hired him to kneecap Gronk again. He hasn't been successful yet (but not for lack of trying).

Well if Dola can't go...they can put 2-3 guys on him...that's what i would do

Hmm, sounds exactly like a stategy for putting that cerebrum to use.
