It makes sense, Edelman, Dobson and Lafell out is not good, Dobson is missing important reps again, if he misses the 2nd game and 3rd pre season games like last year I'm done with him for this year.

I'm not saying this particular signing makes sense, only that BB is looking for another viable option at WR.

I've been saying for awhile that the Patriots could really use a guy like this, particularly after missing out on Stevie Johnson. If LaFell goes down, they are in big, big trouble. They need another true outside WR, or else they'll need to lineup Edelman, Amendola, or Gronkowski as their outside WR. None of those guys are built for that position. Glad everyone still has fantasies about Dobson and that he's having a good camp, but in my best guess, he is in Brady's "don't throw to" list during meaningful games which is hard to come back from.

Outside receiver as a backup/depth guy who will be used in some spread formations is a good investment.

If they did snag Mathis that would probably put the WR position as the most questionable at this point. Not sure what the depth of Lafells and JE injuries. AD is AD. You have Gibson and Tyms but that is not who you want starting.

Like I said when DA is your healthiest WR you may want to be cautious.
