Optimistic Report on Dobson

I live in the area he was born and raised. everyone that grew up with him says he was a good kid and is still extremely nice even after getting a lot of attention at Marshall. Moss is from around here too. Reviews aren't so glowing, but I still love the guy.

I plan on buying two jerseys this year. I like to do one defense and one offense. Collins and Dobson. I usually don't risk the money with young players, but I have a lot of faith in both of them to be star players.

Extremely nice guy. It wasn't a forced or a fake nice either. It was a two way conversation and Aaron was fully engaged.

I've been to the home of the Herd (Huntington) and pulled over to walk by the stadium while on business. I see Dobson is from Dunbar and it looks to be close in distance.

I predict he has a breakout year. I actually said that to him and he smiled from ear to ear.

I still remember when he made that catch. I was very excited to see him become a Patriot. I think he would have been hyped up in the draft if he were coming out of WVU rather than Marshall. Guy never dropped a pass his last year. Grabbed everything thrown in his direction.

Dobson dropped a lot of passes early in the year, but showed good hands later, probably as the route running required less thought process. KT, on the other hand, showed a tendency to double catch the ball throughout the year Despite all his elusiveness as a route runner, could find himself on the outside looking in, unless he develops a role on ST.

LaFell wouldn't be the first veteran WR we have signed and later cut before the season. If Thompkins, Dobson, and Boyce ALL show they have make great leaps forward, he could be the odd man out. If one or more don't or there is an injury, we will all be very glad we signed him.

Its going to be a interesting TC, and the WR's group is one of the biggest reasons

I can't see them cutting LaFell even if all three of those guys make the leap. They need size in the receiving corps and he provides it.

I hope the reports are true. As someone who takes foot injuries very seriously, I put Dobson in the "I'd rather him miss games early than come back too soon and not be 100% ready, so let's not push it" category, along with Gronk.

I hope the Patriots are taking the same approach.

Didn't he drop the majority of his passes on his debut in the pouring rain against the Jets?

Of his 37 receptions 8 were on 3rd or 4th down (in fact, he had a 15 yard average on 3rd down) looking at it further, 5 of those 8 catches were on 3rd or 4th & between 3-8 yards needed, so it shows Brady looks his way when a play needed to be made.

Looking at the splits, the most popular time to go for him was 2nd & 6+ (13 receptions, 142 yards, 2 TDs).

Aaron Dobson Stats, Splits - New England Patriots - ESPN here's where all the above stats are from.

Right now Thompkins is working to improve like a full time job. Almost like a boxer in camp preparing and logging in 8/12 hours a day. He is serious wanting to be a pro bowl caliber performer.

I like our young WRs. They are all fast, athletic, fluid and can win jump balls, including Boyce at 5'11 1\2. Edelman is our payed slot but I would like to see Boyce get some snaps in sometimes. He can scare a defense from the slot. His 4.3 speed from the slot is something NFL defenses must account for over typical 5-10 yard catches. Dobson as a rookie embarrassed some DBs. He is more acclimated now and he will be even faster as he knows the system.

Raiders are shopping Denarius Moore for a mid rounder. He would give us another explosive young talent to develop. He has flashed the explosiveness that strikes fear in DBs. In the patriot system/work ethic/ coaching program he has pro bowl talent as well.

Dobson/Kenbrell/Moore/Boyce would give us the most talented crop of young WR talent in the NFL hands down. Best yet at least a couple if those WRs will take the NFL by storm before NFL DBs even know their names. Then just imagine what Gronk/Vereen/Edelman can do with consistent intermediate/deep playmakers.

On defense we have Easley,Buchanan, Collins,Jones,Ryan,Dennard. This is the most explosive young talent we had in a while. Even Hightower can breakout once he gets closer to typical successful 4-3 LB weight. How explosive would David,Willis,Bowman, or any standout LB be at 270+ in today's pass happy NFL? The guys barely weigh 240.The fact he can be effective at all carrying all that weight is a testament to his athleticism. Many say he would be very good at 250-255. I disagree, he would be a terror at that playing weight.
