PATRIOTS NEWS Patriots Training Camp 8-1-2023

Wasn't that true for literally one day of camp? I'm asking honestly, because from my recollection there was a single session in which that seemed to be the consensus from the beat, but not the overall tone of the coverage for all of the practices. They also had the Sunday session in which by...

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

See, I think you can be very competitive with Matt Ryan, or even the Kirk Cousins of the world. The problem with the Bills is they never even got close to that caliber of player, save for two seasons of Bledsoe. But if that guy isn't enough, then they shouldn't have drafted Mac Jones in the...

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

Lazar is a strange guy. He's a completely different person on PU than he is on Twitter. On the show he seemed really down on Mac and his unwillingness to challenge the defense and take NFL window throws, opting to check down too often when guys are open and being indecisive. And then you look at...

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

If Matt Ryan ultimately limited his team then the Patriots should move on from Mac right now and try and tank for QBs until they find their version of Burrow or Mahomes. If that caliber of QB isn't a plus, then they are wasting their time with Mac Jones.

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

Matt Ryan was league MVP and a couple of plays away from being Super Bowl MVP. He'll retire in the top 10 for every volume passing stat. He was a top 10 QB as a rookie under a bad head coach. Mac Jones' ceiling is far from Matt Ryan.

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

Sure, but to an extent the same can be said for Mac Jones. Both guys need to win with their minds to succeed in the league.

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

Isn't Zappe 6'1? Why are we talking about him as if he were Kyler Murray height? He's one inch shorter than Aaron Rodgers. Not ideal size, but not really that much of an impediment to play QB in the league, especially in 2023.

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

I mean, you're extrapolating what happened over one half as representative of what would necessarily happen every time if teams chose to adopt the same strategy against Zappe. Mac has had games in which his perceived flaws coming out of college were a big part of the reason for his struggles...

    Demario Douglas

Really looking forward to see how he does when the pads come on, because I think Douglas' skillset is precisely what this offense needs: a guy with short area quickness that can get open early in the down. No one else fits that mold, and that's the guy who has feasted in this offense for 20...

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

I think Zappe fared pretty well for a rookie 4th rounder thrown into the fire, but as you mentioned, the league is littered with guys that came in and had some early success in a similar position. I thought he was decisive and had good pocket presence especially considering the circumstances...

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

It wasn't a disaster, though, it was a bad night. Not a particularly bad one, even. That's my whole point. It was a much better performance than Rush's against the Eagles, since you brought up the comparison. Sure, there's no evidence Zappe can start in the NFL, but that second half against...

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

One thing I find really weird with this fanbase is this determination that the Bears game was a disaster for Zappe and displayed his inability to be a QB in this league, when fact is it was just a run of the mill bad performance, of the likes Mac (and pretty much every other young QB) has had...

(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

This website is garbage. There's no indication of a true QB battle, Mac goes first and takes reps with the 1s, but from everything I've heard and read thus far from training camp I wouldn't say the consensus is that Mac has outperformed Zappe or looked decidedly like the better player. I think...

PATRIOTS NEWS Patriots Training Camp 7-28-2023

I mean, not creating separation is also an indictment on the offense. It's obviously too early to be concerned, but they don't really have any guys on the roster aside from Douglas who excel in short area quickness and creating separation at the top of the route so the fact that this has been an...

PATRIOTS NEWS Patriots Training Camp 7-27-2023

Douglas's skillset is one the offense lacks right now, I think he'd add a much needed dimension to the passing game. None of their receivers have short area quickness.

PATRIOTS NEWS Patriots Training Camp 7-27-2023

Lol, Lazar tweets that there's no need to be concerned over how the offense looks early in camp and minutes after wants them to consider extending Dugger early due to his performance in camp. Guess it only counts if they play well.

PATRIOTS NEWS Patriots Training Camp 7-26-2023

Those contested throws to Paker happened mostly in the very beggining of the season and very rarely (if ever) in the redzone.

PATRIOTS NEWS Patriots Training Camp 7-26-2023

Said Patricia last year? Did you not watch them in the redzone? They threw to Rhamondre constantly.

PATRIOTS NEWS Patriots Training Camp 7-26-2023

Sure, but it's a trend, not only the result of this specific drill. The over reliance on throws to the backfield when the field shortens has been an issue for years now. Mac can do that, it's everything else they need to work on. Especially when the first pass is picked off targetting Gesicki...

PATRIOTS NEWS Patriots Training Camp 7-26-2023

It's early and it's expected that the defense would have the upper hand at this point, especially considering they are both the better unit and are returning more players, and obviously I'm not concerned yet, but one thing that bugs me is having a team full of tall receivers and still going to...
