Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

Yet the offense still struggled on third downs and in the red zone, when teams focused on Moss more. As Breer discussed in a blog post over the weekend about the spread offense, the Patriots had a lot of production from 20-to-20 last season, just not where it counted. Some of that certainly can...

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

I never disagreed with anything you're saying, hence why I called those players "fat" to be trimmed. The fact of the matter is, they are all being replaced with young players (Cunningham, Gronkowksi, Hernandez, McCourty, Butler, Crable) who will take time to develop. If the Patriots had gone out...

Who was the #1 WR in 2001? Brown? Was he the prototypical "X?" No! Who was the #2 WR in 2003? There wasn't one. Who was the #3 WR in 2004? There wasn't one. Who played "X" in 2003? Branch, Givens, Brown. Who played "Z" in 2003? Branch, Givens, Brown. Who played "X" in 2004? Branch, Givens...

So was Lawyer, so was Bledsoe, so was Seymour, so was Rodney, so was Bruschi, so was Willie, so was Vrabel, so was Troy, so was Dillon, so was Adam, so was Givens, so was Branch, so was Graham, so was Andruzzi, so was Asante, so was Woody... Fans have short memories. The wide receiver who...

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

I would disagree with the notion that they're making a "Super Bowl push" this year. They have two first round picks next season, and two second round picks. They've been working on trimming fat (AD, Springs, Baker, Watson, Green) and will probably continue to do that between now and the start of...

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

Wow, can't wait to read this board in 2013 when it's talking about a 36-year old Moss making 9 million a year to be a decoy.

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

The same can be said for Watson. Problem is, when you have a high pick like that, he will often just want to walk away from the team where he is underperforming, and try for a new start somewhere else where he can attempt to play up to his potential. His old team will probably have similar...

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

Obviously a 2011 #2 would be a tough one to turn down too. Teams who do not have playoff hopes in 2010 may be less willing to offer a high pick like that for a one-year rental who might quit if the team has no hope. But hey, that's what the Raiders did; they banked on Seymour performing in a...

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

I would think it would go along with the acquisition of another RB. The Patriots have sometimes swung trades (T. Washington, Seymour, Burgess, D. Thomas, M. Matthews, D. Gabriel, A. Davis, D. Wesley), or made veteran pickups (Cox, Phifer, Jordan, O'Neal) to re-shape positions during camp/preseason.

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

Asante Samuel was a 26-year old whose best days were ahead of him. Randy Moss will be a 33-year old whose best days are behind him. Very different scenarios. Seymour is a much better comparison; there was no way the Patriots would trade Asante if they had even the slightest hope of re-signing him.

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

Obviously it's a downgrade, but I don't think it's that simple. The Pats don't very often just have Moss and Welker on the field. Instead of Moss, Welker, and say Holt on the field, you'd have Welker, Edelman, and Holt on the field, or Welker, Edelman, Tate, or Welker, Holt, Price, etc. Trading...

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

I think he means from where his timetable was yesterday. I don't think he means that something happened between his last detail tweet and that one, but he can't say. I think he just is summing up all of his practice tweets to date.

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

Whatever Moss does, it's hard to see him doing it in blue and red past 2010. It's also hard to see him doing it up to the same level he did in September/October 2007 (he really hasn't since then, aside from the Dec 2007 PIT game, the Nov 2008 MIA game, and the Oct 2009 TEN game). We saw in...

Breer just got silenced by Pats PR. Said he can't tweet until after practice.

Breer: Welker at OTAs, in uniform, brace on

If Wes can fully return by early September (three months away), then I think you might have to give serious thought to at least sending out trade feelers for Moss. Like Seymour, it looks increasingly unlikely that Moss will be back next season. With Welker, Edelman, Holt, Tate, Price, and...
