Cade Uluave, BYU (formerly Cal)
6-1, 235

His grades aren't good at all, but there is some intrigue here, particularly around his pass rushing. I love the pass rush in the first play of the video below. One to keep in the back of your mind should he improve his grades.

Grades:

Run Defense - 57.3 (15.2% missed tackle rate)
Pass rush grade - 90.2 (elite)
coverage grade - 55.5

He was a captain on D at Cal I believe. Was always speaking for them to media. Hopefully he'll exhibit more discipline at BYU.

I want to see the Pats double up on LB in 2027. 1 day 1-2 pick + 1 day 2-3 pick.

Chris Cole
Sammy Brown
KVA

Ray Coney
Ben Roberts

Tony Rojas
Whit Weeks
Arion Carter
Cade Uluave

Not sure what to do with undersized guys for now, but that's a start.

This is an important thread. In every other position on the team that has a starter that's on the downslope age wise, they've invested draft capital in the past two years. This is the one that's needed big time coming up - the youngster who gradually takes Spillane's role and turns it into a strength rather than the "good enough" that it is now.

CB is kind of similar. Drafted Gonzo 4 years ago, and not much since. Davis was a FA who will leave a hole in 2027 if not resigned and is older. CB is a strength but that could change quickly over the next two years.

CB and LB are certainly the two biggest needs and that means CB gets the edge purely on a value basis. Prunty showing promise could change that equation however.

It sounds like the team is bullish on Ponder coming out of mini-camp which might lessen the need at EDGE.

I am a BPA guy (I think Lomu was BPA even though he will be needed in 2027), but there is a strong argument due to the salary cap to pick guys to replace higher cost veterans, so there is cap room for 1 or 2 strategic FAs every year. In 2027 we have Moses, CDavis, Onwenu, and Barmore that could be replaced with 1st or 2nd year talent.

"Not a lot of people are getting their eyes on (Chris Cole) in the NFL draft process right now. I haven't really seen Chris Cole's name come up too much for next year's linebacker class".

File under 'should be reading Patsfans!'.

My Uber-binky for 2027 right now.

Watch him rise over the next 10 months and be out of reach.

Wtch the third play from Ray Coney here. It's not the best cut up because it doesn't highlight the player or give you time to find him so it needs a couple of rewinds, but on the third play, he runs the width of the LoS to make the play on the far sideline flat. Coney is someone I'm really looking forward to watching at Texas A&M this year.
