Miller never was the most explosive running back in Alabama's room. He has the build of a bowling ball, but never drove through contact and showcased the physicality a build like his predicts.

In four seasons, Miller had 1,932 all-purpose yards at Alabama: 1,596 rushing and 336 receiving yards. He scored 15 touchdowns, eight of which came in 2024. Miller averaged 4.6 yards per rush across his career, but had a 3.9 yards-per-rush average in a 2025 season shorted by three games by an upper-body injury.

In New England, Miller joins a running back room that already includes Rhamondre Stevenson and sophomore TreVeyon Henderson. His best shot at playing time as a rookie is on special teams, provided the lead backs stay healthy, and as a seventh-round pick he's not a lock to make the team in the first place.

Alabamas run blocking last year was some of the worst I’ve ever seen (on top of bein an Illini fan, I’m also a big Bama fan) After saying that, is 4.42 speed did not show up on the field to my eyes. Was not explosive.

3rd running back is probably one of the more “open” spots on the roster if you’re sizing up the current depth chart. So kid’s got a shot to make it. We’ll see what he does with those chances.

Third RB needs to return kicks.
His ability to hold RB3 will depend upon his return capabilities.
He has some kick coverage experience but I don’t see kickoff return.

He is Lan Larison competition and special teams depth. I doubt he makes the team.

IMO the kick returner should be Henderson. So not sure how much that will be a factor.

At the moment it seems like it will probably be Larison vs Miller for a spot, although whichever one doesn’t make it could probably be a PS candidate.

RB3 has been a bottomless pit.

I had high hopes for Gibson because he was productive as RB2 with the Redskins, but his 25 season was unfortunately cut short. Jennings and Ernie Johnson have not offered much at all. The more plays that you make the more playing time youll have. I surmise that the Pats are looking for another "Lets go Brandon Bolden" who nailed down RB3 for years. A do it all type RB- rush, receive and Special Teams. I recall a play on Pats KO receiving team early in the first Seahawks/Pats Super Bowl. Bolden made a clean hard block that knocked a Seahawks player out of the game.

Hope that Miller sticks.

I like this pick. Every time I watched Alabama and he played, he was very noticeable. Shows good vision, makes guys miss, good pass catcher. I think he and Larison will be a very interesting competition to watch in camp. Larison may win because he is an excellent receiving back, almost slot receiver good at catching the ball. But Miller faced tougher competition. In the 6th round, this was a good pick.

Was #4 on Chris Simms RB rankings, for what it's worth. Starts discussing him at about 48min mark

Simms must have loved NE's draft, he had Miller and Morton ranked very highly. Pats got both in the 7th round.

He has a little Rex Burkhead in his game. Not a big guy, but decent hands, could pass protect in college and can run up the middle. If he makes the team, his presence on the field doesn’t telegraph run or pass.

My opinion is a little skewed, because I was at Bryant Denny in his best game of the year against Vandy. He rushed for 125+ in that game.

Jam will be the 3rd RB and KR. Mark it down.

I think he did a 4.45 at the combine where he was 203. He plays 20 pounds heavier. He is best at short yardage.

Jam Miller is a smaller back but I'm impressed that he matched Treyveon Henderson's 40 time. So he does have some explosion and potential homerun plays in his legs. Very interesting pickup in the 7th. Maybe I would have liked an Adam Randall better as an all-around RB with a north south running style and the strength to push the pile on short yardages. But Randall went to the Ravens right after we took Prunty in the 5th.

So it looks like the Patriots valued CB depth more than a RB at that pick. But considering the rather low price of acquisition, Miller could turn out to be a nice depth piece. Hopefully he shows out in training camp. A late round success is always a nice story if he can pull it off and make the 53.
