Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Hopefully the team will be smart enough to offer for Brown only the actual value of a broken-down, gimpy receiver: a third, maybe, and a short, incentive-laden contract. All this giddy enthusiasm for a short-term, marginal option is simply asinine, but then I guess we have to talk about something in such lulls as this.

1. Who's coaching the team?

2. Who's the QB?

By your comment in A) you have no belief in the team this upcoming season?

The draft is a crap shoot. It's all projections no one knows anything until the players step on the field. Live in the here and now to solidify the future.

Agreed with your point. Only thing I'm trying to say is trust in the process that Vrabel's instilled. How did it feel to have Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe and Brissett before we landed Drake?

We have the 2 most important elements a team needs to compete HC and QB.. that is what I meant by the here and now.. have solidify this roster, this season so if that means a trade or whatever the eam deems will help with then it's a calculated decision.. be good to have another nice draft this year.

I often disagree with you, but I agree with this, to some extent.

People on here way over rate the draft, then act shocked and ***** non-stop when we don't hit on every single draft pick we make. The draft is a crap shoot. Paying more for a proven player isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are times when it makes a ton of sense, but there are times it doesn't.

It would be good to have another nice draft. We just had the best one since 2010, at minimum. That's why I don't understand why some are so desperate to trade a bunch of picks away.

I'm ok with obtaining Brown or a similar WR if the value is there. But trading a premium pick (or picks) is jumping the shark.

This team still has very serious depth issues. Their pass rush right now is average to below average at best. It's an injury or two away from being downright worthless. We're thin at LB and OL. Our top TE is old, etc.

This team was very fortunate with their schedule last season. When injuries starting hitting us hard, we had a stretch of weak opponents. But if that happens again this year, do you trust we can roll right through it the same way, as it stands today? We had a great season, and we're definitely a really good football team. But we're nowhere near as complete as some think we are.

Agreed here. As the roster is far from finished hence Vrabel has to gather a 90 man roster to enter the off season/camp with. So as of now the goal is building the roster and trying to gather as much talents as possible.

On the schedule we were said to have had easy schedules in 01, 03, 04, 14,16&18.. and of course 25

All years we won it all. This team prior to Vrabel couldn't even beat teams that were there equal remember the loss to Washington when Godchaux says I guess we need to hold teams to 0 points? Yeah.. that's how bad it's been 2022-2024 for the team.

The team took the coaching last season and bought in guys had team first attitudes and Drake took that leap into elite.. that's what got them through.. they went to Buffalo that Sunday night week 5 and it set the stage for the season.. they had some close games.. Atlanta and at Miami so it wasn't always easy but the pulled through.. each game takes on it's own identity is why the NFL is any given Sunday.

Now in the postseason the offense struggled and the defense played exceptionally well. I fully expect the roster to be better than last season once it's complete... especially in the run game

Do you not grasp how you're constantly harping on not having a top WR, yet you would choose Brown over a rookie ten times out of ten? How did AJ Brown enter the league? How did any other WR you've ever wanted us to trade for enter the league? You can't trade for a proven, can't miss veteran every time, their shelf life isn't long enough and you have to spend too much in draft capital continuously. You end up with a depleted roster, no different than if you go through a draft slump like we did in Belichick's final years.

You absolutely should get hung up on draft pick compensation, because it very much matters, especially for a team that still has a pretty serious depth issue.
Lets' just agree to disagree on this I am not changing my stance on A.J. Brown.

IF Clueless BB did is Homework we could have had Brown from the beginning. But Bill saw something in slow poke Big for nothing Harry.

You mean exactly like the possibility that if Vrabel did his homework, he can draft one of the next top WRs with the pick he would have used for Brown? It works both ways.

Oh I know if Kyle Williams makes that jump we'll be sitting very pretty. IF he doesn't we kind of back to square one: I trust Mike Vrabel. That said A.J. Brown will make us a heck of alot better on Offense especially in the postseason. Our Postseason Offense was well words can't explain.

Brown would make the offense better. But in an ideal world, we use that pick to draft a WR or another player that makes our offense better long after Brown would be gone. We had a hell of a draft, I'm not as anxious to take picks away from the guys who pulled that off.

I'd like to see us focus on continuing to build a well rounded, talented, deep football team. If Brown fits into that without costing us too much in long term improvements, great. But I do think it's a mistake to focus on the playoffs and try to fix specifically that rather than chugging along with the rebuild.

Look at the bright side if we get A.J. Brown He probably have three very good years left counting this one. Three year is a long time in Today's NFL. For comparison look at Davante Adams @ age 29: A.J. Brown's age this upcoming season well over 1500yds. Brown is far from done and FTR: I'm for the Continued Rebuild with proven Vets like Brown sprinkled in.

But the compensation will matter considerably.

Let's throw a hypothetical out there and say before day 2 of the draft last year, the Pats offered a 2nd, 3rd and 4th for AJ Brown. I'm assuming you would have been over the moon with that trade.

But you just gave up Henderson, Wilson and Woodson. Barring injuries this season, I would say worst case scenario, Henderson is explosive but inconsistent, Wilson is average to below average and Woodson is average.

But if they improve and continue to build on their rookie years, you're looking at a poor man's Jahmyr Gibbs, a quality starting center, and good starting safety. And the total cost of those 3 players is roughly $5.3 million. That is TREMENDOUS value in today's NFL.

I get what you're saying but if the Eagles didn't think Brown was worth it: they wouldn't have Traded for him and signed him to that Massive contract. We could honestly say that Trading Brown lead to Mike Vrabels demise in Tennessee. They went on a spiral after Browns departure: they then Drafted Treylon Burks to replace him Top 18 selection who turned out to be a Bust! Draft picks don't always work out.

Here's what I don't understand, 2. Your position that AJB will make us "a LOT" better on offense. Better than what? We were the 3rd best passing attack in the LEAGUE last season and that was accomplished DESPITE the fact the team ranked 24th in the league in passing attempts (502) with the 27th ranked Jets less than 10 attempts fewer.

So exactly how would adding AJB make us THAT much better. And as for the poor playoff numbers we have made 3 major changes to the OL. Campbell is healthy. Adding AVT. and moving Wilson back to his natural position should improve the OL even before the draft. Wouldn't those moves improve the passing offense as much if not more than adding AJB? Wouldn't the fact that the team has a year of familiarity with the offense improve its effectiveness?

BTW- I'm not against adding him... just not at "any price" like you are.

Hope springs eternal ken: we have quite a few "IFs" if Wilson can get Stronger and not be put on skates at Center. Also if that MASH unit AVT can stay healthy. Here's my thing ken: I want Drake Maye Throwing to legitimate WR's like his Peers and not a room full of JAGS. Drake Maye reaches his Ceiling with a WR like A.J. Brown and a Solid Young up and coming TE. He will never get there with this current cast.

Back in 2010:

The draft is a crap shoot. Live in the here and now to solidify the future. Let's trade our 2nd round pick for a proven, 28 year old Jason Witten. Rob Gronkowski is all projection.
Gronk was considered a 1st round talent but he slipped to the 2nd because of injuries. We were lucky to get him in hindsight.

But a 28 year old Jason Witten would not have been a terrible acquisition either. He was a Pro-bowl caliber player for the next 5/8 seasons.

We can only hope that our 2nd round picks will work out as well as Gronk. It's pretty rare. Sadly most of BB's 2nd rounders were undersized and/or injury-prone reach DBs from small schools.

I suppose you point is that the team should hire you to draft a WR in 2027 who will be a better value that the 2027 pick.

1) Brown will help in 2026.

2) There is no assurance that a 2027 rookie will be valuable to the 2027 Offense or even thereafter.

3) Trading for a key player or two is a reasonable strategy for a playoff team, whether in a "rebuild" or not.

4) The addition of Brown would likely accelerate the passing game from being in top 5 in the LEAGUE in 2025 to being even better in 2026, 2027 and 2028. Of course, the passing game already has already improved its blocking with the addition of AVT, Gilliam and Hill.

No, I'm more than happy to let the guys that ran last year's draft board do it again this year, I don't need to be involved. As for everything else:

1. He almost certainly would.

2. That's true, but if you hit on that pick, there is assurance that player will help the Pats long after Brown is gone or declining.

3. No doubt, Belichick did it all the time. But I don't know if we're at the point yet of 2027 1st round pick for a 28 year old in the rebuild. (If that is what it ends up costing, I would like to pass)

4. It would be hard to argue the passing game wouldn't be better in 2026, but I don't think anyone should confidently say a 31 year old Brown would still be elevating the offense to better than top 5 in 2028.

It all comes down to what we trade for him.

.

.
IF and only IF

I trust Vrabel to judge the future value of the pick (plus extra cap money) and the future value of Brown.

The is a 50% shot that the pick won't even be a starter.
