DRAFT Draft Rumours 2026

Things in the last 24 hours that make me think.

1. DJ comparing Keylan Rutledge to Logan Mankins.

2. The release of Mapu suggesting we may need to double dip at LB. Do we rule Jacob Rodriguez out?

3. Alternatively, with us looking at a few early round safeties, does the release of Mapu suggest an interest in drafting a big nickel safety early?

4. Kaleb Proctor's play style/body usage being compared to the best DTs in the game. Proctor is on our contact list.

We might expect or want something to happen (i.e. EDGE/RT with first two picks) but that doesn't necessarily mean the team sees it the same way. So it is useful to consider the slightly more 'out there' possibilities.

We never rule anyone out.

However, with Mike Vrabel talking about how much he values versatility, I wonder if he would prefer guys like Jake Golday and Kyle Louis to players - very, very good players - like Jacob Rodriguez and CJ Allen, who have less versatility?

Just a thought.

Golday seems like a more athletic Vrabel clone to me. OLB, MLB, EDGE. Rush, sideline-to-sideline, drop into coverage, spy. Converted DE. Could probably catch a few TD passes if used at TE.

The idea that Rodriquez lacks versatility is a bit mislieading. Rodriguez started his career at Virgina with the "FBP" designation and was used as a Taysom Hill type back-up QB. He transferred to Texas Tech and became a Line backer. So, he's got some versatility.

I think that this experience for Rodriguez is what has helped with his defensive ability to become one of the best ILB in College FB. Wouldn't surprise me if he was a starter on Special teams as a rookie wherever he ends up.

Brugler had Faulk at 15.

I've been mocking Emmanuel Pregnon to Seattle at 32 for months.

Malachi Lawrence has had 16 visits. Very popular and probably a good bet for round one.

I can't remember which podcast I was listening to last week but they said that the feeling most teams have about him is that he's capable of being very good against the run but hasn't shown any appetite or desire to do it, and just makes a token effort. He's happy to coast by on his elite pass rush ability and do the bare minimum against the run. But there is a belief that he will be a good run defender when his job depends on it, and based on that he's a certainty to go first round.

I'm not sure I saw the blasé attitude in the run game. I think he showed a lack of instinct, discipline and power. And I'm not sure he'll ever be a reliable edge setter against the run.

He was also very blase at his pro day, IIRC.

"Effort and finish."

Red flag for me.
