I'm Confused About Posting In Some Threads While Avoiding Any Political content.

Nobody likes to admit that its really the peoples fault the govt has gotten so far off the rails...

If we are guilty here of anything its being a "bit" bread and circus.

However its a football forum.

I like the no politics policy here.

Politics in america are garbage, and we all get enough garbage takes in life and other places on the net.

I don’t know if politics is garbage, but the line that used to be there has been destroyed. Remember that one politician who shrieked with excitement at a rally. He was gone soon after that. Can’t remember his name, but didn’t understand what caused him to be ostracized.

Howard Dean. Back in the olden days when screaming funny would end one’s political career.

I know what you're all thinking and Henderson did nothing wrong that's all

It was the Howard Dean scream in 2004 and after that the Dem leadership wanted him gone, so he was gone. Much like Tim Walz who met with Dem Leadership in Jan '26, and promptly after that withdrew from all future state and national campaigns.

Hellavu good job helping to keep politics off of this forum.

Thanks so much.
Am I correct that mods could delete such a post for being objectionable because of political content? Missed opportunity.

I’d be happy to see some heavy handed moderation so I don’t have to see such crap posts.

Heck I’d even argue that any mention of red or blue that wasn’t referring to uniforms should be banned as political incitement, and deleted if posted. You’d think that commenting on the beautiful blue sky or pretty red sunset would be safe, but in today’s hyper polarized world it’s likely even those apparently innocuous comments would spark political warfare.

You go to Pats Reddit and it seeps through the cracks nonstop. (which is any sports Reddit sub altogether)

I really enjoy coming here and feeling like I genuinely am escaping from that environment. Politics are everywhere right now. We need places where we can have space from it.

Those of us who have been on Patsfans for a long time remember the Pofo, political forum that Ian eliminated because it was a cesspool of ad hominum attacks and craziness. It did have the advantage of quarantine the mishigas, sort of like an asylum.

I would think if the topic has to do with football/pats/nfl politics, it would be ok, but saying something unrelated about politics in general would be frowned upon which I understand. Even without directly mentioning politics, I have had people say that I am, when it's intension was to not. I wasn't posting when the politics forum was around I think, but having one available for those who want it may lessen the amount we see it in the pats forum...Maybe reopen it and let it be a free for all? Poster beware? >=D

The end came when Hillary lost.

It’s been over 25 years, I’ve already been down that road and it makes people hate each other for reasons unrelated to football. It brings out sides that kill relationships between people who otherwise got along great up until that point. It just doesn’t work.
Completely agree. There's been several high profile forum websites that disband or splinter from political threads that get way too personal.

Especially in a forum like this where people have been here awhile and know each other. I'll never block anybody but there's been some wild takes here the last week about a certain skill position player, who I no longer respect.

My sig line "We get what we deserve" was a message for political forum members back in the day. We, as a collective, have embraced ill-informed inputs that dump data into our brains but only increase ignorance, while the sheer volume of data to support resultant opinions causes victims to mistake that volume for supporting evidence, and encourages people to scream these twisted opinions louder.

And we, as a society, routinely drown out rational voices that have something useful to say, mostly because what's actually compelling doesn't come packaged as a quick dopamine hit.

So, yes, as a society, we're getting exactly what we ****ing deserve.

Before this thread gets locked out I would like to reconsider the idea of a political section. If I find someone offensive I just block them. Debate brings in views. While I agree with free speech obviously I also agree that a business has the right to fire someone if their policy deems that the employee did something detrimental. That's different from a company denying a customer because of their views. Customer vs. Employee is where the lines need to be drawn.

I hear you, but as I’ve said, I’ve already been down that road. I’ve done both previously over the course of the last 25yrs, and they were disasters. So we’re not doing any political threads/forums.

Deleting the post was my first inclination, but I felt there would be more value in highlighting the doltish comment.

Once again though, the same group of certain forum members just can't help themselves, and slowly but surely, subtly and not-so-subtly, interject their personal political viewpoints into the conversation. It's an addiction, no different than a person who cannot not gamble, not drink, not ingest toxic drugs into their system.

Yes, it is a mental illness.

Football inherently has political aspects to it, and with it, discussion can unravel into a larger macro discussion about those politics:

Cap spending - money, ownership, share, pay, etc.

Player's behavior - you're lying if you think you haven't injected your own morals into why or why not a player "deserves" to play for a team, which brings into discussion what structures exist in upholding a blood sport, roles of organizations vs. the NFL vs. the law and its structures in dealing with issues, etc.

Rules - brings into question the priorities of the NFL, which involves discussion around money, necessitates role analysis (fans/players/owners)

Then there's NFLPA talk (which I, admittingly, will often inject with my own politics), there's stadium construction, etc.

The issue never is politics, it is the manner in which the discussion is had, and I've learned on this forum a valuable skill: you can still extract good discussion, even with someone who is being an ass, if you just remain cool and don't give into the rage bait part of a statement. It can be a lot sometimes, but generally the people with some great points on this board aren't great at communicating them when its in form of disagreement. Instead of wasting time, space, and air trying to change that, just take what you wanna take, and move on.

Pro-tip: engage in standing up for your politics off the internet, because it makes disagreements and everything else so much easier to deal with on the internet; you're not so beholden to winning an argument.
