Gonzo signaling…

He and Surtain are neck ans neck for the best CB in football.. absolutely pay the man... CAA his agents should be replaying the footage from the game in Tampa last season front office executive Alonzo Highsmith telling. him he's the best corner in the league...

1. Gonzo, Surtain tied
2. Stingley Jr.
3. Mcduffie
4. Sauce
5. Jayson Johnson

I think you have a point with his personality. I only have one game that I thought he really stood out and that was the Super Bowl. He's had some other good games, but none as good as that one. Still, I'm not a fan of these big contracts to one player. To the quarterback yes, if its Mahomes, Allen. Maye isn't in their class yet. He could be, and if he ever gets some decent blocking, he just might be.

He had the best rating on defending passes thrown his way in the past 8 years, 48%. completion percentage for opposing quarterbacks.

Maye was the best player in football last season, how on earth isn't he in the top tier of quarterbacks?

This must be a bait post?
Can’t be serious.
Wow, everyone sure loves themselves some Gonzo. This entire thread is about a player going to a Celtics game and taking the opportunity to say he wants his money. As a fan I am allowed to find that irritating. Gonzo is Asante Samuel with more talent.

I don't really have any reason to believe he has that kind of ego. He is a very charitable personality, I doubt he wants that kind of attention. But I could be wrong.
We can't know what he wants. No matter what it is he has a right to ask for it and the team has the right to say no, for any reason.
I hope he stays but it wouldn't be like losing Maye.

Yeah, that was a bad look. Unfortunately, as fans we're also forced to root for a lot worse.

Both are the real deal.
Hopefully the Pats can figure out a way to pay every top player they have.

It's amazing to me how many Patriot fans don't know how to guage the play of so many players. Christian Gonzalez was the hardest cornerback to complete passes on in the last 8 years, and he's allowed 1 touchdown in his career, yet some Patriot fans go" meh, he's ok I guess."

Mathew Stafford completed 13 touchdown passes from the 1 yard line last year, and despite playing with Davante Adams, Puka Nacua, and Kyrie Williams was only able to get the Rams to a 5th seed in the NFC. Drake Maye had an amazing stat line and set all sorts of records despite having no stars on offense, and led the Patriots to the Super Bowl, and some Patriot fans go " meh he's not in a class with the best quarterbacks in football.

They make no sense at all. Is it that they don't understand football? Or is it that nothing is ever good enough for them?

It's probably both.

Now that is complete ********. Show one example of Gonzalez being an *******?

Yes, most Patriot fans appreciate having a shutdown corner on the team. He's allowed 1 touchdown in 3 years, and he's the toughest QB in football to throw against in the last 8 years.

All for our top guys getting paid, but this is still cringe.

I think people really undervalue how important a player like Gonzo is to the team. He's not just "a" CB1, he is potentially "the" CB1 - like, in the league, just like Drake is jockeying to be the best QB in the league. If they can lock down Drake and Gonzo for the next 10-12 years that's a golden ticket. They already have some of the best coaching in the league. All you need after that is a true elite WR1 and you're built to compete for a long time.

Sheesh, I never once said anything about his play on the field. In fact I said the opposite. I hope that the team finds a way to sign him. It is fine that you think it is ok to do what he did, just as it is fine that I don't appreciate that part of the package. I thought this site was about sharing opinions not bullying posters into having the same opinion.

I'm wondering if the Patriots have told Gonzalez they are exercising the 5th year option even though it doesn't have to be announced until May 1st?

I also wonder if Gonzalez wants to make up the $15M difference between his and Witherspoon's initial contracts..

I'm sure that's part of the negotiating process as it's obviously one of their options. Worst case scenario is he plays out the deal, they franchise him for a year, and then he leaves in free agency. The Patriots get 6 years out of him and a Day 2 pick, and while not what they would have liked it's not the end of the world.

Now you are comparing him with Samuel?
Come on now.

Clearly Gonzo is the better player on the field. The comparison is related to how he is negotiating his contract. A contract that I want to see happen.

Yes, I know what you were referring to.
I don’t think Gonzo has come close to Samuel’s antics back in the day from memory.

I can't think of any instance where Gonzalez has done something offensive.
