NFL News Dolphins Trading Jaylen Waddle to Broncos

Share the latest NFL news from around the league here.
The quest for the first overall pick continues.

The tank makes perfect sense for them. They're eating Tua's contract so might as well bottom out and see what the next rebuild brings. Of course for them their rebuilds haven't gone well, but they also fired Greir so who knows about the next one.

This is a great move by Denver. They lacked firepower and there was very little chance they get anyone comparable to Waddle in the first round anyways. Huge improvement.

Sad but true, especially since their "first round" pick was so late in the round at #30 overall.

The other factor is Waddle hasn't been a locker problem, where AJ Brown has publicly shown frustration with his coaches.

If Brown wasn't causing problems he wouldn't be available via trade in the first place IMO.

This, plus Brown's knee getting drained every week, makes a big difference IMO.

I think a 1st is a proper compensation for a WR1 who still has some good years to come. I just feel Brown is already in decline and isn't going to get better.

It also feels like our front office aren't viewing WR1 as a huge need and perfect match like so many posters here are, or they would have just made the trade weeks ago.

I hope you’re right but disagree and so do all the odds makers.
Buffalo is the favorite for the division, they have the best QB and player in the East.
I do like our overall roster better than theirs, on that we agree.
A football team is much more than 1 player. What did the odds makers have to say for the Patriots winning not just the East, but the entire AFC, this time last year?

Would be nice if Elliot could get off his overpaid a** for once and take a risk

Afraid of his own shadow

The Dolphins weren't going to trade Waddle in division. The Bills tried to trade for him before the trade deadline and reportedly this offseason and he Dolphins told them to pound sand.

And AJ Brown is still out there. If there is truly no other competition looking to trade for him, the Pats are best off waiting and making his value decline. If Roseman has reached the point that he is going to trade him and no one else is going to step up and even negotiate, Brown's trade value declines. Right now Roseman is firm on a first and a top 100 picks. He might drop the price as the draft gets closer and he wants picks so that he can use whatever pick to either draft a quality player or trade up to get a stud edge rusher or receiver.

I’m not sure on Waddle.
Look at his stats, his targets have decreased a lot since his rookie year.
Is that because he’s not getting open?
Is that because Tua and the Oline turned into junk?
I think he’s a good WR, but Denver waaaaay overpaid imo.
I agree. I would think that when they had Hill that would have given Waddle more opportunities since the focus would be on not letting hill go off.

Ahhh I did not see that a pick will be traded back. I dont see Waddle as a WR1 and his production over the last two years has dropped but I also dont see Brown as elite either outside of 2022 and 2023.
The problem with Waddle was that team and the QB

Solid move, im probably not as high on waddle and moore as most so i dont see them as ‘over the top’ type moves but will definitely make Denver and buffalo stronger. If we have a solid draft at our key areas of need i still see us neck and neck with both teams as the afc elite. Solid draft plus AJ Brown and i see us as afc favorites.

Ok, you want AJ Brown. Now, what are you giving up to get him?
#31 this year
4th rounder in 27

No wr taken at 31 in this years draft will be anywhere near Brown’s talent level

There should be no fear to trade 31

While I admittedly wouldn't be fired up about that trade, I could stomach it for sure.

But what if we have offered that and the Eagles are demanding two 1st rounders or a 1st and 2nd? At some point you have to say no thanks, right?

If there was indisputable proof that all the Eagles wanted was a 3rd round pick and we weren't even willing to trade that, I would be right there with anyone criticizing the Pats. But your giving Wolf crap for not yet completing a trade for compensation you can't even know is good enough.

And for anyone that is praising the Broncos for getting Waddle, I don't buy for a second they would be just as fired up if the Pats made that same deal. Happy to get Waddle, sure. But no, no one would be giving the Pats an A+ at that compensation.

Extremely annoying that Nix is getting the absolute royal treatment while Maye will be forced to make it work behind an average line with average weapons. ****ing hate the Broncos.
But Dobbs is a redzone weopon.

Dolphins fire sale.

Tua. Hill, Waddle gone.

I don't know why anyone thought we'd get him for less. That just isn't the market.
Waddle's almost 3 years younger, and overall cheaper. (And a better deep threat)

Elliot isn’t the one with final say on players.

My 2 cents:

1. No doubt this improves the Bronco's, but it's not some silver bullet that puts them over the top. It also gives Howie more ammunition to demand a similar price for AJB.

2. I will remind people that NOTHING is going to happen with AJB until after 6/1. It simply makes no sense for the Eagles to move before this date. This FACT has been established ad nauseum in the AJB thread. You know the one where we say the same 8 things over and over again... for 56 ****ing pages

3. What we do in the draft will affect any AJB trade. I have seen several mocks having us take KC Concepcion a 6' receiver who ran a 4.37 at the combine and is very sudden in his breaks. A guy who might fall to us because he had his knee scoped after the combine but should be full go in May. If we take a WR like KC that high, I think that will take us out of any AJB trade talk.

4. Personally, in my ideal world we trade for AJB for a 2 and 4 in 27 and draft an Edge, LB or S in the first round.

I think this helps contextualize the way NE is operating this offseason thus far. Remember, it's not necessarily about being the best in the conference as much as it is just being better than the 3 teams in your division.

At this point, the Jets and Dolphins look like they will be dumpster fires, and Buffalo will make an effort but still has holes. Joe Brady is in his first year as an HC, is very young, and it remains to be seen if he can do the job. Even if he can, he will have growing pains. And their defense still really sucks.

So overall, the Pats may not look like AFC champs on paper but they seem to look like AFC East champs on paper to me, WR room concerns be damned. Improvements to the OL, better TE blocking, and a quality fullback will let them pound the football much better than in 2025. Probably a lower win total, but that doesn't mean it's not still a division title and a home playoff game.
Add Brown after June 1 and we are a better, more competitive team.
