Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
People who are hyping up the 27 draft have very short memories. IIRC in the run up to the 25 draft, everyone was complaining how that draft class was thin on first round level picks, and how the 26 draft was going to be SOOOO much better.
I think 2026 wasn't so hyped as 2025 was trashed?

Been doing some analysis on the draft and updating the "2nd year leap " analysis. Couple things jump out related to your post.

No player in the first 33 picks of 2025 had an 80+ PFF as a rookie when the past 3 drafts had 3, 6 and 5.

I think that also talks to your point. The drafts are not always talked about in terms of depth as they are in terms of first round talent. If you don't expect to draft in the top 10, maybe top 15 then not sure there is much difference in talent draft to draft.

Looking at NFL Draft Buzz the 50th ranked prospect from 2027 to 2024 rating is 86, 85.2, 86.2,86.2 and #100 prospect is 84.8, 84.6, 83.8, 84.0 Similar.

The hyped 2024 draft did average a 69.0 PFF in the first 33 picks, which blew away the years around it. Once you get to pick 50 it was like every other draft.

The one thing with the Patriots is everyone expects them to be drafting higher in 2027 and if they don't beat Buffalo out for the division they could miss the playoffs. THAT would be a valuable pick, way more valuable than 31.

IF they make the playoffs in 2026 then the 2027 pick won't be a ton more valuable than the 2026 pick.

That being said a 2nd and a 4th is worth AJ Brown, a 1st with his age, attitude and knees probably not.

Denver been linked to AJ

I think this based on a Brian Baldinger report that says their is a mutual desire by the Eagles and Broncos to send Brown to Denver. I don't know if I buy it.

First, Baldinger is not a reporter who breaks stories. No legitimate reporter like Schefter or Rapaport are reporting this. If there was really that much interest, you would think guys like Jordan Schultz or Diana Russini, would have been constantly reporting about AJ Brown trade rumors, would have something.

Second, why would the Eagles care whether Brown went to the Broncos or not? They want to send him to the place where they will get the best compensation. I can see them wanting an AFC team over an NFC team, but they know the Patriots are interested. So they should have no preference over the two teams and the only thing they would care about is the compensation. And it is clear that neither team has given into Roseman's demands or Brown would be traded after the Eagles extended Goedert over the weekend.

I seriously doubt Aquib Talib knows any inside information. Talib hasn't played for the Broncos since 2017. There has been a complete regime change in Denver since then including ownership. There are few people left in the building who even know Talib. And I doubt there is anyone left who knows Talib who would have privy to private trade conversations between the Broncos or another team.

Would hate to see Brown with Nix also Denver have better a WR Room than us right now. We should have the Advantage because Brown started out with Vrabel. Also Talib is a Turncoat who bends with the wind.

It’d be very disappointing if there are not more than that.

Any rookie from last year that makes a second contract with the team will likely be here in five years. Hendo, Campbell, Woodson look like they’ll be worth keeping that long. That’s three, hopefully there will be more. Plus Drake Maye and Gonzo, that’s over your four already. Haven’t mentioned any other youngsters, STers or FAs we just got, where one or two could be good enough to stick around if they’re not greedy. Remember, one of the goals Vrabes set for himself as a coach is to get his players to where they sign their second contracts.

This coming season will be a good litmus test for their philosophy of drafting and developing players. Especially in the defensive front 7. I know that many are alarmed that they haven't done more at edge but they could really like their young guys, Ponder, Swinson, Farmer, Taylor etc... and feel that they will take the next step in the coming season, so they won't spend heavily at those positions, and will allow the young guys to demonstrate that they are turning into good pro's.

There's no advantage having Vrabel, just because Brown wants to play in New England it doesn't mean Roseman has to send him here. It will simply come down to who offers the better deal.

This logical fact appears to be extremely difficult for many to grasp and accept.

AJ Brown is a huge Patriots fan. He wants to go to the Pats over any other team. Unfortunately, it won't be his decision. He cannot turn down a trade with the Broncos.

One possibility is that they are floating around fake interest in Brown to drive up the Patriots' price. Everyone around the league assumes Brown will either stay with the Eagles or be traded to the Pats. With no competitors for trading for Brown for the Patriots, it takes away some of the leverage from Howie Roseman.

I just find it hard to believe that the Broncos are jumping in this late in the process after a lot of other teams have dropped out because Roseman won't lower his asking price. If the Broncos were really interested in giving up a first for Brown, I would think they would have been in on the process earlier.

Both PHI and NE will be prepared for the possibility that AJ will be traded after June 1st.

And life goes on. For now, both teams are focused on the draft.

And AJ Brown will not alter the our draft plans in any way. The team has to be built without him.

I think it was the same with the Rams. They already have Adams and Nakua, they clearly don't need any more receiving help, and could easily get it in the draft if they want more.

I'd push back on this a little, when you have a guy like Brown who's shown he's willing to be pain in the ass if he's not happy, teams may be less likely to offer draft capital for the privilege.

AJ is not going to be a patriot. Elliot and Vrabel do not operate that way.
He is going to be traded to a non patriots team.

Elliot prefers to sign long snappers and special team safeties who are friends with Vrabel.
That's such a lazy take. Signing a training camp long snapper and special teams safety before trading for AJ Brown apparently in your mind implies we prioritized them.

That's the equivalent of you driving to the bank to secure a home loan so you can move your family to a better area, and on the way, you stop and grab a Mountain Dew, and someone accuses you of caring more about soda than the welfare of your family. Or maybe it's just a hell of a lot easier to buy a soda, and it has no impact on whether you can get the bank loan.

Last year, reports came out of us agreeing to terms with Spillane, Davis and Moses at least an hour before Milton Williams. You would assume that means we preferred those guys. Most other people would assume that means they said yes first.

If someone says something like that then it needs to happen within days, otherwise, meaningless. What teams decide to do June 1 or after can change dramatically and I don't see where they get a game changer if he's not talking about Brown.

I posted this in general news but I see why the price for Brown is so high….

Talib was ultimately right. Denver giving Nix an excellent WR.

.
If DEN is willing to trade for a player who doesn't want to be there, that is their choice.

I would trade a 2027 first for Brown after June 1st if a long-term new contract was in place.

And unhappy Brown potentially threatening sit-out for Training Camp can't lead to a better deal from DEN.

Waddle is a year and a half younger, but not nearly as productive as AJ Brown. I think I would rather have Brown. But the Pats are most likely going to have to give up a first for Brown.

I think the Broncos gave up too much for Waddle.
