Sometimes the job of the #1 is to take up all the oxygen in the room. Not saying he was doubled every play but he certainly wasn't left on an island. And hand it to our D for playing sensational against him.

The idea we don't need a #1 is a Brady mindset imo. We need to play with the expectation Maye can't make magic out of beans vs top talent in the playoffs, cause he had a hard time. And it wasn't just the o line. Too often windows were too tight or he had to search too hard to find a guy. It is easy to say find the open WR when you aren't the guy who needs to do it. When you have a #1 it simplifies your reads. That is just as important as any other part that shows up in a stat sheet, particularly if you aren't a Brady or close to prime Mahomes behind a crazy good oline, a great scheme/play all and personnel designed to create space to make your life easier.

I am tired of the idea we are above needing that kind of player, particularly after that offensive playoff run we just had. Clearly the fide if the ball needs to be addressed massively. And even when mate had time it didn't look great. So let's make things easier on him.

Doubs signing, even if you still want Brown, is a great signing. Takes away a ton of leverage Philly had in negotiating a price for Brown.

I’ve been very happy with our signings in what has otherwise been a nutty market

I can see why people have concerns but there are lots of positives. The main gripe seems to be he isn't a WR1, the cost and we supposedly have similar already in the room. The positives are decent though. Good hands, good route runner, creates a lot of separation and has been top 5 for that 2years in a row, GB fans mostly really like him and are sad to see him go and he was their leading WR last year in a system that promotes sharing the ball between everyone.
I think cost wise he is about right and given the loss of Diggs the move makes sense to me for around 10m less and no impending court case.

Well, considering that Ja'Marr Chase had a cap hit last season roughly 23 times that of Boutte, it's actually a disappointment he didn't finish with 750 catches, 12,500 yards and 140 TDs.

You have to give examples of how Doubs is overpaid for when he signs the contract. It has nothing to do with the stats of someone already under contract. Alec Pierce is the highest paid free agent WR in history. Is he anything close to the best free agent WR in history?

None of this matters when they get AJ. It's clear to me that he was signed to be the number 2 behind AJ and the pats are laying all their eggs in that basket.

I don’t disagree. 17m is the new 5M receiver. When you realize that Edelman never made more that 7.75M/y in his career.

but your precedent post insinuates that people were ok to sign Higgins for 28M for 850 yds but don’t want to pay 17M for a 700 yds receiver. Which wasn’t the case.

People wanted Higgins last year and were ok to pay him that amount because he had multiple 1000yds seasons and he was coming out of a season where he was on pace for 1300 yds.

But Boutte and Doubs aren't the exact same player being asked to do the exact same thing. It isn't like we can't get them both on the field at the same time.

If we're talking about redundancy, we should have given a big contract extension to Edleman when Welker left instead of signing Danny Amendola, they were such similar players. But I fail to see how losing Welker, giving that money to Edleman and NOT having Amendola would have made us a better team going forward.

He was projected to be a number 1 here.
My main point all along has been Doubs is a #2 and is being paid like it.
I posted guys that are in his price, contract wise earlier in this thread.
Kupp; Juedy; Meyers, Wan’dale, Saheed.
I wouldn’t want any of those guys over Doubs.
His contract is the going rate for what he is.
The folks that are saying we paid #1 money for a number 3 WR are very, very ill-informed.
