Patriots Player Departure Jahlani Tavai Released

This likely does not bode well for Anfernee Jennings, although I like the player, he's probably perceived as too expensive.
It’ll be interesting with him because in the 2nd half of the year he actually did step up and play much better than I thought he would in this defensive style.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. Pats should’ve taken the cap hit and just released him immediately after his out of touch-entitled comments about the fans.

Watching him lining up along the Edge and easily getting beaten by ball carriers was seriously irritating.

This is the last wave of the “entitlement” purge. There are a few others who aren’t safe for a while.

I would have thought at these numbers he would have been been a trade candidate.

I think Tavai was one of the longest-tenured players w/ the org, at least as far as I know.

Here is my list of players who have been with the Pats the longest, at least 3 years (the cutoff to have spent at least 1 year under Belichick):

- Anfernee Jennings: 6 years
- Mike Onwenu: 6 years
- Christian Barmore: 5 years
- Rhamondre Stevenson: 5 years
- Hunter Henry: 5 years
- Marcus Jones: 4 years
- Brenden Schooler: 4 years
- Christian Gonzalez: 3 years
- Kayshon Boutte: 3 years
- Pop Douglas: 3 years
- Bryce Baringer: 3 years

Younger, cheaper, BETTER.

They’ll pay 5X for his replacement

They don't shy away from tough decisions.
Yeah, they look at the roster, make decisions on where they need to get better, and then make the space to do so, on the assumption that they will get it done. Letting go of one trapeze before you are sure where the other one is, takes guts.

Listening to Vrabel talk about it they have plans for every move, and back up plans with back up plans knowing things aren't always going to as they hope. I think Vrabel, Cowden, Wolf and Streicher discuss every move at length and come to as much of a consensus as they can.

Reason for release was a failed physical.
Could possibly be re-signed for depth once/if that issue is resolved.

Tavai (undisclosed) was released by the Patriots with a failed physical designation Wednesday, per the NFL's transaction log.

He was the team’s recipient for the 2025 Ed Block Courage Award, given to the player who best exemplifies the principles of courage and sportsmanship.

The Patriots said, when announcing the award, that he had soft tissue injuries in the offseason that forced him to miss time during training camp. During his recovery, he was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease. He eventually returned to the Patriots lineup.

Decent player, they'll take a look at what they have, and calculate IMO.

They need to do better than that bum.
