Player Signing Romeo Doubs Signs

I'm going on record, feel free to grudgepost me with this.

Doubs will exceed Diggs' production from 2025 (assuming no AJ Brown or Olave add, of course). Book it.
I'm right there with you.
Not sure he will top him in yards, but he will have a better yards per and more TDs for sure.
I can't wait till he plays well and all the haters will forget this thread ever existed.
It's coming.

He's just such a perfect fit for the offense, concepts from multiple formations...

We still didnt have a #1 grade A receiver though.
THERE ARE 10-12 OF THOSE "GRADE A #1s" IN THE LEAGUE. During the regular season the Cowboys, who have at least one of those guys and you could say 2, finished with 266.3 ypg and the Pats finished with 250.5. You could say having a #1 WR doesn't matter as much as you think it does. And the Seahawks who also have one of those guys finished with 228.1 ypg.

Sorry for the all caps at the beginning I had to get it out of my system because it's frowned upon to kick my dog.

I mean choosing to overpay a number 3 to be your number 1 instead of giving up a first for a vastly superior player in AJ Brown is a choice.
Is there a link with Vrabel or Josh saying he’s our #1 receiver?

He is.
And for those of us who have actually watched him play (going off this thread there are lots who haven't), there are games when he looks much better than his year end stat line, and was head and shoulders GBs best WR.
His ceiling is way higher than an aging Diggs.

$20m for a career 650yds WR, yikes
He replaces Diggs, no better, no worse IMO
FWIW, the radio talking heads seem to agree that he was underutilized in Green Bay where the offense spreads the ball around rather than feature one or two high volume weapons. Felger, who is a GB fan, was particularly positive about him being a good fit for the Pats.

Looking at the combined stats for the last 4 years youJa could almost make the argument that we finally replaced our old WR2 (Jacoby Myers) with Doubs. Of course Myers was also our QB3 while here and haven’t seen where Doubs can make a forward pass yet. If we can’t close the deal on AJ Brown then tell Philly they’re still on the hook to pay for those counseling sessions. Could we then go back to Diggs, tell him his papers got mailed by mistake and offer him $30M straight up for the next two years?! I just can’t stop sweating thinking about Wolfe making another WR draft pick especially without even a reasonable facsimile of a WR1 on the roster…

4/70. That's 17m per year.

Doubs feels like a mid #2 type of WR. He has averaged 600-700 yards per season pretty much his whole career.

From: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DoubRo00.htm

I mean he's younger and cheaper than Diggs but he's no #1 WR.

This move feels very mid.
Fun fact - since Davante Adams left 5 years ago, the Packers haven’t had ANY receiver crack ~800 yards. So you scoff at his stats, but those are #1 WR stats in Green Bay’s offense.

One other disadvantage for Pats to not get deal for Brown done now

2026 picks 2nd ro worst pick in each round
2027 picks unknown position. If its a bad year could be top 10

Roseman probably prefers 27 picks
I don't understand his logic. By my calculations the Pats will be picking 32 in 2027.

Anyone thinking this guy is a #1 WR is a fool, solid 2, prob not even an upgrade over Diggs. Especially Diggs prob being even healthier this upcoming season.

Who called him a #1?

I haven't seen anyone call him a " #1". And he's not being paid as one, in fact his deal is less than the one Calvin Ridley got 2 years ago, when 1/2 this board wanted Wolf to sign him, 2's get around 18-25 a year, depending upon the player.

Probably the same folks who were pining to pay Higgins last year.
He got $28.75M for 59 catches, 846 yards.
And somehow $17 is a bad contract for a 55 reception 700-800 yard guy who will put up more here assuming health.

Exactly. It seems that the inability to put things in context is now a psychiatric disorder.

The Pats offense had their problems in the red zone in 2025.

Now we have a RZ threat with Doubs. That should be an upgrade.
