Player Signing Romeo Doubs Signs

Could also be negotiation via the media to get Philly to drop their price.
Could be sure, could also means Philly doesn’t give a crap and sticks to their guns. They know NE still needs a lot of talent at the position.

Douglas is not a fit in Josh’s offense. He’s a slot WR that thinks he’s a boundary guy. He’s terrible deciphering zone and can only beat man because of his quickness. He is not a good fit on this team.
ya, he needs to go to a team where it's okay to slip and fall down on your own every time.

[edit: I like Pop and he is exciting, but it's like the dude is on ice skates]

True. But the other half, the guy who controls the purse strings, is still here...
I don’t think he told Bill no, nor do I think he tells Vrabel no. I think there’s a budget and they adhere to it.

I think there’s a lot of money ball management at play here.

yup. they have a method, and stick to it. for better or worse.

Yeah, but frankly it makes a lot of sense. The Eagles would have (should have) traded him by now in order to secure a replacement in free agency. That’s gone. Doesn’t mean they won’t trade Brown, but now no need to do so over the next month. The next big inflection point is the draft. If he’s still with the Eagles then, the next time will be in camp, either early in camp if Brown is holding out, or later in camp if another team has a WR get injured or another team’s receiving group isn’t coming together. Camp has the post-June 1 advantage, but a major disadvantage of not being able to immediately replace Brown unless a player was part of the deal. We’ll see what happens. I doubt Brown will be on their opening day roster, but he could get traded at any of those inflection points.

Or a deal is in place for after June 1st to send a Patriots WR to them.

Which isn’t a good thing for NE, less time for Maye and Brown to gel.

I don’t think it’s likely. Too much can change in 2 1/2 months. Someone can tear their ACL in rookie minicamp. Certainly possible that they said they’d check back in with each other after June 1, and even have conceptual parameters around a deal if they were to do it, but I doubt an actual deal would be in place.

$20m for a career 650yds WR, yikes
He replaces Diggs, no better, no worse IMO

prob not even an upgrade over Diggs. Especially Diggs prob being even healthier this upcoming season.
But look at the age difference. Doubs is really young.
I was hoping for Pierce or Brown after releasing Diggs.
Pierce allegedly turned down better contracts to stay where he is. And he's getting a pretty massive contract with the Colts.
Brown may still be on the table - have to wait for June.
Doubs seems just as good (if not better) than Pierce underneath. Obviously not as much of a deep threat. But much cheaper - money that can be spent elsewhere.

In retrospect would have been much better to trade a 2nd for dj moore.
They botched this up.
Buffalo gave them a 2nd and a 5th. Buffalo had a more advantageous 2nd and 5th. We would have had to give a 2nd and a 4th. We went to the SB but are still rebuilding and need those picks to keep some youth at a lower cost to fill this team roster

I’m of the strong belief that undetectable deer antler wears off around January - February. Older players need to keep that energy and intensity.
Agreed. Good analogy. Diggs was also a emotional leader.. that's an excessive amount of energy to expend.. then having to go out on the field and perform

One other disadvantage for Pats to not get deal for Brown done now

2026 picks 2nd ro worst pick in each round
2027 picks unknown position. If its a bad year could be top 10

Roseman probably prefers 27 picks

Younger doesn’t mean better.
