Yeah, I think it was a combo of initial real reporting that they 'were close' followed by fake/fan accounts reporting that it was official with actual dollar amounts, and I mentally conjoined the two.

Still, it is a good sign by this front office - two years in a row they have managed to persuade what was effectively their biggest target to NOT sign with some other team that they were close to signing with, and instead sign with them. It shows aggression and some real ability to get deals done.
