Player Signing Patriots signing guard Alijah Vera-Tucker

Sorta surprised they went with Vera Tucker at $14M rather than Edward’s at $15.5.
But they have a starting offensive line.
While Vera Tucker has been injured a lot it’s been two torn triceps. That must be easier for a lineman to recover to full potential than knee injuries.

The pick was David Edward who didn’t get much more than AVT. He is not as good at his peek as AVT but he is a solid LG and he almost never miss a game.

That line doesn’t need risk it needs stability.

That line is still full of question mark. What Campbell will be? Will AVT be able to stay healthy? Is Wilson gonna be a serviceable center? Will Moses finally show his age?

The only stable piece is Ownenu.

That line could be a disaster as quick as it could be good.
Edwards also plays in between to very good players on each side.

Well it is Edward's decision and not the Pats. and lets see the real money such as injury protection.

AVT is a great player when he is healthy. In a vaccum I like the signing. I just feel that considering the state of our line it’s risky to go into the season with a player that has played less than 50% of his game in his career.

I like Ben Brown but not as much to be good if he has to start more than half the games.

He’ll be healthy for the entire contract because he’s no longer a Jet. If he stays healthy it’s a really good deal, if not it’s an expensive IR addition. Worth a swing given the talent.

He’s a good pairing with Ben Brown who is a stopgap starter as the backup LG.

20 draft picks in the next two drafts. Trade for a WR and they are in good shape.

I tore the video off the bone in my shoulder, it's a long recovery but now my bicep is massive. Really, people literally come to me on the street and say " excuse me sir, but your bicep is massive." I then sign my bicep for them. Which is quite a trick, because I'm right handed, and it's my massive right bicep.

Versatile player, LG as a rookie, RG after that, a couple games at tackle.
When he's healthy been a very good guard.
2 torn biceps and a torn achilles means he's due for the other achilles? Let's hope he makes it thru the season,.

I'd rather have had Edwards though 2024 AVT is better than 2025 Edwards. Only because some guys are just injury prone and AVT is one of those. Hopefully he's comeback player of the year and if he stays healthy and plays to his 2024 level he is the best guard in free agency.

-Always been a really good run blocker, in 2024 showed he could pass block at a high level. His pressures per pass block were more than cut in half form previous years. Elected captain in 2025 which might go towards his character being high.

-Could be a top 10 NFL guard based on 2024, so much risk but so much reward for a reasonable price and years.

-Stay loose, Ben Brown!

Biiiig upside here. Let’s go.

Meh…..Jets had one of the worst offensive lines in NFL last 2 years. (He was out all last year in fairness to him) This guy has torn the triceps muscle twice already and has Achilles issues. We need depth on OL and obviously need big playmakers coming out of the draft to rebuild this line…… just not sure how much this guy is going to give us and can he stay healthy.

PS Looking at this deeper he missed a lot of time in 2022 due to torn Right triceps, 2023 played 5 games and tore Achilles tendon, and 2025 tore his left triceps in initial practices and missed the entire year…..
This is a HUGE roll of the dice by Vrabel…..very risky signing

3 year deal. I think he’s a starter at LG. We have Ben Brown as a good insurance policy.

An offensive lineman!!! Yay!!!

I thought he might have to get used to LG but apparently he’s played all over the OL. Good player. I wonder how they evaluated the injury risk.

Probably Google and reruns of Doogie Howser

Last years OL was:

Campbell / Wilson / Bradbury / Onwenu / Moses as starters and Lowe / Brown / Wallace / Bryant as backups to start, eventually Munford added.

I anticipate they'll start the year with 9 guys again. Lowe is gone but I'd expect Munford to be brought back. AVT replaces Bradbury which should be a big upgrade when healthy. Wilson should be better as a center than he was a LG.

Moses is ancient so I anticipate drafting a RT is something they'd do as high as the first round. I highly anticipate they'll need a new starter in 2027 based on Moses' age and contract structure (I expect he'll be cut next year) so if you can get the guy a year early that would be ideal. That means Bryant and Munford (eventually re-signing fight for one spot).

Brown is a fine backup but AVT is a walking injury risk and Onwenu is in his last year. So I'd be inclined to at least be open to drafting a Guard somewhat highly in the draft with the idea they could be the top backup inside for this year if AVT gets hurt and be good enough to let Onwenu walk next year. That will bump Wallace off the roster. Onwenu's (and Moses') lack of athleticism is also kind of misaligned with how the left side of the OL is (highly athletic) which could make for some awkward blocking schemes, so that's a misalignment I think they'll seek to fix through the draft this year and/or FA next year. AVT has played LG and RG so that drafted player can be a guy on either side as far as replacing Onwenu next year, though it's easier if he can play LG as far as backing up AVT this year.

So we'll see if the draft board falls the right way, but I'd love to use a 1st on a RT of the future and a day 2 or 3 pick on a starting Guard to take Onwenu's spot next year rather than extend him into his 30s.
