Player Signing FB Incoming! Patriots sign Reggie Gilliam

He's an upgrade over Westover. Sure... he'll get a shot in camp to compete but it's doubtful he will beat out Gilliam or even Lampe.
Who are we talking about here?

EDIT: @TheRainMaker No you're right...I wasn't clear. Should have read "He's an upgrade over Westover. Sure...Westover will get a shot in camp to compete but it's doubtful he will beat out Gilliam or even Lampe.

No problem. We all do it sometimes.

Gillam averaged about eight snaps per game on special teams and run blocking… not really very exciting signing obviously but it’s a need that we have if perhaps the Pats will use him more. He will be competing against Lamke for the position I’m sure and of course he looked really good before injury

If Gilliam never played a snap at FB, this would still be a decent signing. Let's not forget he's also a core STer who plays almost 80% of the Bills ST snaps. Now I thought Lampe was going to be the FB next season. It will be interesting to see how this competition goes. If Lampe is good at ST, as well we might very well keep both on the roster

...and yes Westover WAS painful to watch trying to block. He tried hard, but never moved ANYONE

Whinging about PFF aside, that's the part I wanted to see. Lead blocker is one thing, but someone who can clean up the mess when someone breaks through the line is critical.

Quality info.

The pass-blocking grade is misleading because he was only asked to do it a couple dozen times last year and about 62 times in his career. Hopefully, we'll see more play-action out of the Pats in 2026 with Gilliam back there blocking..

You need to be able to run the ball against the good teams

This guy sounds like the best FB in the league blocking for one of the best RBs in the league. Why does Buffalo let him go?

For the same reason why NE let Sam Gash go after the 1997 season. I've been trying to find info on Gilliam, but can't find anything.

Because he will be used maybe 30% of the snaps, so it would make more sense, if you're up against the cap, to spend elsewhere. imo

Dolphins are so ****ed. For a few years anyway.
Jets and Dolphins at $90mil dead money. Bills with $43 mil. We have a head start on the division for the time being.

Also, as much as I hate them, the Broncos recovered masterfully from the Russell Wilson fiasco.

Belichick always talked about improving all 53 roster positions.

This signing is replacing the 53rd best player on the team with what should be the 20th-30th best player. He'll be a huge tool for McDaniels.
