Patriots Rumor Tracker / FA Signings (Updated: Signings in OP - 4/7)

A year ago Vrabel inherited the worst team in football. A month ago they were in the Super Bowl. Now they suck and don't know what they are doing.

One of the following us true:

A) Mike Vrabel doesn't know what he is doing, he sucks.

B) Some fans don't know what they are talking about, they suck.

Take your pick.
I’ll take option “B” for $500 and the truth, Alex
Theres one other truth still in play however - our GM Eliot Wolfe has proven incapable of selecting a “capable” wide receiver even when using a high draft pick. I give you Mssrs Thornton, Polk, and McConkey as proof of this truth beyond any reasonable doubt….

Polk is the only WR out of those 3 that he drafted, and that was a bad pick. . Bill Belichick drafted Thornton

Again, I just figured I would post it. I figured it probably isn’t real. It was an interesting trade possibility.
Was hoping to see some hits on this. Just crickets unfortunately.

It used to be that teams would cripple themselves with QB signings that went bad.

Maybe other positions are going to start participating too?

I’m not sure they have any more leverage.
NFL teams don’t pine away about 1 player and overpay to get him. There are 32 teams. You have less than a 4% chance to get any player. You have plans that include the player if you want him and plans that don’t.
If Philly wants to get rid of him, they have as much urgency to trade as the that wants him. If they wait until draft day they take a big risk, and if they wait until after the draft they get nothing this year.

Honestly I’d rather play Kyle Williams than give up a 1st and more and pay the cap hit to AJ Brown. Hes not that special.
Another thing worth keeping in mind is that other teams who may have been interested in Brown have potentially either made other moves at the position and no longer need him, or have used up too many cap dollars already to afford him. As more time goes on, more teams will fall into those buckets and then NE is not really bidding against anyone else, and everyone knows Philly really wants to offload him, so NE may even lower their offer as the draft approaches and other teams back out… and then of course when the draft hits, the picks get used up and then we are talking about 2027 picks.

If anything we should be praising the Patriots for not making these deals.
They have been very fiscally responsible under Vrabel. The only deal that looked like it MIGHT be an overpay was Milton Williams, but that ended up being perfectly valid. It seems like they are good at setting their limits and sticking to them, and only budging if they feel the player is truly transformative to the operation.

Hey, at least Justin Herbert got OL help!!! …

Its the same song and dance every year, we haven't done anything, all the good players have been scooped up, the FO sucks, kraft is cheap. I just realized ive been hearing this for twenty years.
I’ve never really cried about the lack of moves in FA BUT a good majority of the years those song and dances aren’t false.

The only time I *****ed and whined was when we traded for Sanu and I got about 30 dislikes for that comment.

Edit: and looking at the crazy $ being thrown around day 1, I don’t blame the Pats for not diving in the deep end this off season.

Mike Silver thinks the Pats will get active at some point:

Sorry, I disliked it because you refered to whining about Sanu. lol

He also traded the McConkey pick rather than pick him when he eas sitting thrre, thrn used the draft “capital” acquired to select wr’s Polk and Baker…. Good catch on Bill B selecting Thornton (so used to him drafting 5’9” DB’s in the second round)!

Krafty Bob has Alot more salary going out than coming in .. he better extend Gonzalez or the cheap Kraft talk will continue, and rightfully so

Could mean Bryan Cook on the way somewhere else

Great signing! PFF's 10th rated guard in 2024, missed 2025 with torn triceps. 14th overall pick in 2021. Big potential.

Health is obviously a big concern but his injury last year shouldn't have big long term implications.
