Patriots Rumor Alec Pierce question

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
Yds/rec is awesome...if you have more than a career-high 47 catches.
He's just not worth anywhere near that money to me.
Alec Pierce gets PI's too that don't count against his stats. He would be Best WR here regardless you have to take that into account. I mean unless you want to roll with Useless Pop.

Doubs will get what, 13-15 a year?
That is not #1 WR money, not even close.
That's #2 WR money nowadays.
Now if you sign him for more and think he's a number one, then you get yourself into trouble....and you should be fired!
We can find a Romeo Doubs in the Draft no thanks.

I agree.
Then why Pierce?

100 passes for 1000 yards.
Chain mover.

I'll take the 50//1000 in this case because. of the impact it will have for the rest of the offense, and the fit it has with Maye's skill set. I also believe his numbers will go up considerably with Maye throwing to him.

Who's the chain mover then? Because now you have 3 intermediate/deep guys and whatever's left of Mack Hollins.

Pierce has no greater impact on the offense than Kayshon Boutte or Kyle Williams.

I think Pierce can be part of the chain moving, I don't think he's limited to just deep patterns, they also have Boutte Hollins, and Henry, and if Chism pans out he'll be part of it. Unfortunately, if the reports coming out this morning are accurate, his price tag may go beyond what the Patriots are willing to pay. We will find out soon enough, free agency starts in a few hours and we'll have outlet answer. Guys like Pierce and Lindebaum will go off the board pretty quick.

Would you rather pay a WR who caught 100 passes for 1000 yards over a WR that has 50 catches for 1000 yards?

1. Whichever one costs less
2. Whichever one projects best to become an 80/1500 guy

Also:

3. Whichever one complements your QB better
4. Whichever one does more to free up/improve your other receivers

I noticed in several of Pierce's highlights is that he was wide open down the field and had to slow up to catch Daniel Jones' passes. Better passes would have resulted in TDs. With Maye, those passes would have likely been TD rather than just 30-40 yard gains.

Chain mover you say?? I have Four we can choose from... Germie Bernard - Antonio Williams - Skyler Bell or Cyrus Allen. All Four will thrive in the Slot at the NFL level.

This applies to any FA anyone brings up though. Every player who was ever a FA was, at some point, eligible to be drafted.

Look at a guy like Kyle Williams. Many, myself included, are hopeful he can be a contributor this year and beyond. He could go on to be a HOFer but it will still never change that we essentially got nothing out of him as a rookie. No significant, meaningful contributions really. That can happen with any rookie - even good picks sometimes take time to pan out. And some end up total busts.

So yeah, you can turn your nose up at any FA thinking you can fill that spot in the draft, but the cap space just sits there if you don't use it so you should always be trying to add talent where you can.

It's a very good Draft for WR's with plenty Dept players: with Starter Potential down the road. We just have to hope they choose the right ones. Remember it's not BB shopping for the groceries @ WR anymore *thank goodness*. We could have had Pierce or Pickens the year BB selected Bony Tyquan Thornton before either: talk about a ridiculous REACH selection.

If we do end up signing Pierce, people will make it into a Diggs replacement because that was our highest paid and best statistical receiver last year. In reality though, Diggs was our #3 WR in terms of playing time. Boutte and Hollins played more. So rather than a replacement for Diggs, Pierce would actually be more of an upgrade over Hollins and take his playing time. Or I guess you could look at it as he takes Boutte's role as the go-to downfield/outside/X receiver and then Boutte/Hollins/Williams/Douglas/Chism battle it out to take the roles that Hollins and Diggs played last year. You'd really be changing the makeup of the WR room.

Personally, I love the idea of Boutte playing more of a flanker/slot role and Williams hopefully stepping up into that rotation as well. Hollins, Chism, Douglas are all limited players that should be #4 or lower on the depth chart IMO and used in packages. But I think Pierce/Boutte/KWilliams could be a really dynamic 3 WR set. All have an ability to make plays downfield which plays to Maye's strengths. Add a good move TE with some YAC ability and then I think you can be very diverse on offense.

Boutte is a boundary receiver. He's not a slot. You don't want him playing slot.
